Awning not tight

I have a 3500RL (bought in August) I had the Dealer install awnings over the slideouts. One of the awnings is not tight across so some water collects in it and will cause mildew over time. I checked the slideout is out all the way. All the other awnjings are fine. Is there a way to adjust the awning to take out the slack? Any help is appreciated.

Try putting a ball under it, about the size football. This will make a hump and the water will run off. Works for me.

I would say for the money you spent on having those installed, take it back to the dealership and have him for it or replace it. They should stay pretty tight while extended over the slide.

Thanks for your response. The ball idea would work but since this is a new Trailer and those awnings are expensive I will have the Dealer fix it.

Never hurts to have the dealer look at this situation, but if your slide topper awnings are like ours, they are supposed to sorta droop when they get filled with water. This keeps them from ripping right off your unit. When the water starts to evaporate or the wind comes along and jiggles some of it lose, then the awning sorta rolls back up. Believe there is some kind of spring in there.

Steve R. has good descriptions of this, use the search engine and give it a whirl. this has been discussed a couple of times before.

good luck and welcome to the forum

Yes, they are spring loaded (in the barrel) just like the patio awning. The weight of water, snow, ice, pulls more material off the roller. As the weight is removed (evaporation, wind, broom, etc.) the spring rolls the material back into the tube. On ours this is most noticeable on the long awning over the living room slide. I suppose if water sat there long enough it could mildew but I haven't worried about it. Sometimes after a heavy rain we will look out a slide-end window just as the wind gusts and water pours off that awning.

Some folks use a ball or other method to either tent the awning or pull it down ('v') in the middle to keep the water from pooling. That's an option if you want to do that.
