Steps (Wall)

On our 2010 THT 345 Mountaineer when you enter the 5er and step on the bottom step you hear a groaning sound and the floor will move from the wall (it moves down). You can feel it move down about 1/16 of an inch. I placed a brace under the bottom step & the movement & sound stopped. I was able to tighten the bolt that looked as if it is used to keep the wall & floor together & help with the step in place. After I tighten the bolt the step still moves & makes the sound. Any idea what happen. It just started. Thank you for your info.

I assume you're talking about the step that's part of the trailer and not the folding entry steps. If thats the case, the floor should be attached to the wall with a 3" machine screw. It was probably stripped upon installation by over-tightening. I had a seperation where the toilet room floor was seperated from the wall by stripped screws. I clamped them together and drilled new holes and put in new screws. That was 2 yrs ago and they held. I added liquid nail also.

Ray it is the folding step. The bolt I tighten turned as I tried to tighten the nut. I had to put a pair of vice-grips on the lower part of the bolt to keep it from turning. I wonder if there is a second bolt under the undercover edge of the trailer. There is about 15 inches before you get to the kitchen slide.

Weldon, since you say it is the outside folding steps, we had the same problem with our 2011 3400. The steps would make all sorts of groaning, hideous noises going in and out. Solution.....which is actually in the manual, oil all the moving joints/pivot points. Standard motor oil will do. As soon as I got that done, not a sound out of them any more. Amazing what "dry" metal moving against each other will sound like......!

How about the fact that the floor moves. I put my finger on the floor & the gap between the floor & the wall will get larger. When I put boards under the bottom step the sound & movement stops. Does anyone know how the wall & floor are connected? Thank You
