Here's the Awning lock installed;

I didn't have to use the pop rivets, the Grey cap was secure.
Took about 10 minutes, and one cup of coffee....

Got mine in the mail today, installation took about 10 minutes including the (2) extra pop-rivets (my end cap seemed secure with the (2) OEM pop-rivets, but I figured why not install them for extra security). Basically I just had to look at the provided illustrated instructions (the original printed step by step instructions make it sound like a difficult job), then I just "Winged" it, and all is well..

Tim,
Here's a copy of an earlier post about that subject:
I am near to the end of my list of Mod's and additions, the awning lock should go on today, if everything goes according to plan.
The reason for an awning lock, you might ask?
Last year we did some traveling, lots of traveling.....
We were leaving Albuquerque, heading South to Tucson in a horrible wind, it was miserable. The Tumbleweeds were 20 feet in the air. I knew we were in trouble when we saw wind socks on the highway at the Canyon intersects. I told Sue, "We're not in Kansas anymore, Dorthy"!
A lady in an SUV from Texas was waving and pointing at us, I said man, they are really friendly around here, she was about the Third person to do that. The the Duh! moment came. I told Sue, I think something is falling off our rig, so we pulled over to find the Awning ripped and blowing all over the trailer's side.
I climbed up on top and started cutting it off with my Spyderco knife, while Sue was holding the awning remains, trying to keep it from beating me to death. We got it on the ground-in the air, all over, and stuffed it into the back of the Excursion.
Oh, I contacted Dometic- A&E, they had one shipped to Island RV Repair in South Padre, and we had it installed when we got there, N/C for the awning, only a service charge of $70.00 to the grouchy old fart service guy-owner.
Here's some pictures, and the awning lock, it looks pretty nifty.

Tim, I've seen a few of these over the years. Some people strap the arms of the awning thinking that will prevent it. It won't. All that does is keep the arms from opening. This is where somehow the wind gets into the awning tube and unfurls the material. The arms are still upright and locked in place.

Do those with awnings over several windows need one for each window or is the problem only with the big awning?

Ozz, I don't know but would assume the larger the awning the bigger the risk. In any case, the risk is extremely small. I've seen maybe 3 or 4 of these total.

As we use these campers more and more, Live in them longer and longer, put lots of road miles on them the probability that out of the ordinary problems will occur increases. We pay particular attention to full timers like Sreigle and others who IMO push the limits of these campers. Problems that they experience will most likely be issues that we will see when long timing and we pay attention to those issues. We have seen awnings come loose on the road but always because of operator error in securing the awning that is why we always used the bungy cord to secure the awning arms as a preventitive measure against operator error...With increased travel this awning lock is food for thought???

Rich,
The type of awning failure the lock protects, is wind getting under the awning material, and billowing it up, catching even more air, ripping it. A separate issue from the arms.
I hope I read your post right, if not, sorry, long day.....
