Glacier National Park

What part of the Glacier National Park, Montana, is the best to visit and what is a good RV resort near this area. Thanks, first time for us visiting this area.

The Going To The Sun Road is what you are there to see. I've stayed on both sides. On the east side my favorite CG is the StMarys CG. It's in the park and just off the Going To The Sun Road and just in the park. There is a Private CG that you can see from that CG. both are with in a mile of gas and supplies.

You will want to find an RV park OUTSIDE the GNP first. Especially if you're over 30'. Then plan at least 2 days cruising the "going to the sun" road. One day just to casually take in the MANY viewpoint stops along the way, a second day to do some "browsing" both the village and the visitor center at the top of the park. We also did a drive completely through the park via the "going-to-the-sun" road, exiting the east gate then going up to the "many glaciers" stop off which is actually a dead-end trip roadwise. Good restaurants and shops up there also. If you're lucky enough, keep your eyes open for the wildlife, from sheep and deer to bears and other critters. And take LOTS of pictures, video or whatever means you have available to record all your visions you will encounter

We stayed in Columbia Falls, just outside the park. Close to town and 20 minutes from Whitefish, another great place to spend a day.

The west side is the busy side. We liked the small park on the east side, outside of the park. There is a RV Park inside the park, from the east entrance, but it is really not suited for large stuff. The railroad station at the east entrance, the lodge you can see from the station, great memories.

Going to the Sun Road mid summer will be almost impossible to find a parking spot in the parking lots. Way too busy for us. Go early summer or late fall.

Elks Lodge in Kalispell has elec/water sites for Elks members and the gas station across the street has a RV dump. Nice bar and restaurant in the lodge.

We stayed on the east and west the advantage on the east is you are realy close to the Canadian border and the other side of glacier can be seen there along with Canadian stores and sights. after you do all you can on the east side. we went before the 4th of july and watched the fireworks from Canada the a day later we had the USA fireworks. it was after 10 pm before it got dark enugh to do them.

MLH, Are you talking about this RV Park? St. Mary / East Glacier KOA It is rated 7.2 on RV Park Reviews, and says no wifi? I guess we can do without for a few days???

Yes about the KOA outside the park. My favorite is the StMarys in the park. My 2955 RL was 32 feet and I noticed your 5er is longer if you choose it check it out before you go in to it. Might be tight but I think you could make it.
When you go take your binoculars and check the high mountains for bears or behind your camper. That is where we found one. We see them in our yard in the summer so no big deal to us.

The St. Mary's in the park has hardly any amenities for a 5th wheel, so I guess we will do the KOA St. Mary outside the park at 106 West Shore Road St. Mary, Montana. We are close to 42 feet long, and with the long bed truck near 60 feet!

VERY timely post - we're going there in a couple of months on our way to Seattle and Portland. Already booked a CG near Columbia Falls for a week, but we'll be pulling through from the east. Thanks for the info on places to see, etc.!

When are you planing to visit? We were there a few years ago in the begining of June and the Going to the Sun Highway was still closed because of Snow. So we did time on both the East and West sides of the park.
