Awning lights? - Montana Owners Club

I know this is probably like asking about your favorite tv, but I would like to know - actually, Cheryl would like to know - what kind of lighting do you use on your awnings?

I would like something that does not draw in every mosquito within five counties to my front door...

We have several sets. Have the American flags, parrots, some red white blue blub lights. Also small orange, and some of the tiny christmas lights. We like the parrots best. Haven't noticed any mosquitos around them.
Were you asking about the small colorful awning lights or something bigger?

Thanks, Dusty. Cheryl just mentioned when she read Carol's post, that that was what she was wondering about. Carol, how do you like them? Do they attract bugs?

Dave and Cheryl, we use the "rope" lights. We have strands of white, and one strand of red and one strand of multi-color. They sell hangers that fit into your awning track at Camping World just for rope lights. We really like them as they don't draw that many bugs. We have use the white Christmas tree mini lights before but found the rope lights easier to handle and they don't get tangled. I bought several of the rope lights after Christmas at Wal-Mart when they went on sale for a couple of bucks each.

Cheryl, we have looked at several so far but haven't bought any yet. I thought that on our 1st long trip (May 20-May 30) we would find some unique ones on the road. I can't imagine too many mosquitos being attracted to the lights. We love plants, so we have been hanging our boston ferns on each end. They look pretty. I'll probably leave them there and have some lights inbetween them.

We have ... Cactus lights! I know our porch light at home is yellow and it is not supposed to attract bugs........so I am thinking,, yellow moons or yellow trailers might be good !! We have some yellow moons too . They are just the popular string lights (110). Don't take alot of power and they do Not seem to attract any bugs!!

We use the rope light also. Haven't noticed them drawing bugs however California is not as buggy as the east, south and midwest is. We had hanging lights that I had made from upside down flower pots and beads before the rope light and they didn't draw bugs either. The rope lights are easier to use. We have the long (20" or so) adapters from Camping World that slide into the awning tube. I notice they now have some clip type ones for rope lights. Ours are red, white and blue and we also have all white and all red.

Also I forgot to mention, we hang those little " Happy face bug balls" on our awning to help with bugs,,, they blend right in.

We have the clear lights. They are easy to put up and no clips to lose. The only thing is I would like a screen to protect from the sun. I guess that attaches to the awning track too. Guess I can't have everything.

ROPE LIGHTS on mine! Camping World sells the clips for them, cost was $6.95 for the pack.

Thanks, everyone! Great ideas. I will run them by the boss. She is very creative with rope lights, but she may want to try some of your other ideas, too.

I also have the Malibu pathway lights. They come in a pack of 10 including 50' of wire and the timer, they work great for having around the pinic table and the coach. Found them at Home Depot for $24. I keep them in a rubber made tub in the basement. Just another idea of something to carry... =)

A friend of mine made me some limited edition "WELLS BLUE BUNNY" Ice cream cone lights. He wrote WELLS BLUE BUNNY on each cone. We have had a lot of comments on them but they are fading pretty bad and we will be looking for some new lights this year.

We have small lantern lights w/Citronella Oil at each end of the awning. We have been using them for years. Just the right amount of light and no bugs. We put them out when we go inside at night.

We found a string of "grapes" lights we found at Fred Meyer in WA state and Fry's in AZ. They work really well as fun porch lights and carry the Grape theme from the inside to the outside without being really overly obtrusive. The lights are purple and green (like grapes) and don't seem to attract bugs. And they are kinda of romantic. We love em.

Colored rope lights are nice !! That's what we use. We do have a set of "pigs" since that's what my wife collects. They were a gift. Anytime someone needs to get Jena a gift, pigs (ceramic, jewelry, metal, wind chimes, rugs, all kinds) are a popular choice.

Sometimes we take a couple of solar path lights and stick them in the ground by the steps in case we go out and forget to turn on the porch light.
