reese slider
My Reese 16K will not slide when the 5er is attached/ It is well lubed with slider dry lube and slides easily when the 5er is not attached. Any ideas?

Does your Reese have the handle on the drivers side that says locked towing on one end and locked maneuvering on the other? If it does the handle must be in the neutral position to let the slider slide from one position to the other. That's the way mine works anyway-- you might have a different Reese slide than I do however! I'm sure there will be others along with advise or other questions!

I use the spray I bought for the slides on the Monte! It works great and no mess! I hit it with a little spray each time I head out. I asked the sales rep at the dealer my unit came from and he agreed with my use of the spray. I used to grease them but that was so messy and I always got grease all over the bed of the truck, now there's no problem!

Ours was also a bit balky. I had to hold the brake controller lever to lock the Montana brakes, put the truck in drive and give it some throttle. That usually ended with the slider hitting the stop with a bang that always made me wonder what I damaged. Plus I then needed aspirin for the headache. Some I've seen slide much easier but ours didn't.
Fortunately, in 13 years I only used the slider four times. Unfortunately, I should have used it a fifth time. Fortunately, the damage to the Montana consisted of a tiny scratch on the corner and the truck got only a very small dent in the cab sheetmetal, because Vicki saw it coming and yelled for me to stop. I was very fortunate. Fortunately. Fortunately, I no longer have to worry about it since we then purchased a superglide auto slider.

My previous slider was a Reese. I had the same experience as Steve Reigle. I finlly started spraying the rollers and the rails with WD40. It got a little messy but not too bad. The best part was it worked.

Rondo. What spray are you using for slides? I was under them the other day and wondered what to use that wouldn't attract dirt and other debris.

RCN.Stoker, if you can find TFE 101, it works great. This is what the Keystone Service Center suggested I use. They took the slide lube I bought at camping world, sprayed a piece of cardboard, threw dirt on it. The dirt stuck to the sprayed cardboard. On the other side they sprayed TFE 101 and did the same test. The dirt fell off. None of it stuck. They then gave me that can of TFE 101. One of these days I need to find some more. A year or two ago someone posted a site to buy the TFE 101. I'm sure there are others just as good but I don't know what they are.

I'll have to check on the brand name of the Slide lub I use but I did check on the TFE 101 that was mentioned and it is a teflon product. If you do a search on a search engine other than the one here on the forum you will come up with the TFE 101 product and who cares it!

I also had to use the brake control and absorb the shock when it hit either end. My solution? I traded for a new long box pickup in Ariz. last winter.

I had the slider rails smoothed out and refinished and lubed with slide dry lube. It is still hard to slide from towing to manuevering but it does move now.
