Campground Suggestions In Florida

Well it's finally time to retire. We'll be heading to Florida in February (will stay about 3 months), not sure where, but would appreciate anyone familiar with decent campgrounds or resorts in that state offer suggestions as to where to stay. Money is not too big an issue but it is our first time and I want to make sure D/W is happy. John

Not sure how fancy you want to get but there is a nice place in Ft Pierce. I think it is Treasure Coast RV Resort. There's lot's to do in the area and within 50 miles or so. Nice beaches here. There is a couple ppl on here that are wintering at this place. The Mets spring training is only about 5 miles away. Then down in Jupiter the Cards and someone else there. About 40 mile north is the Marlins camp. There are more ppl going to be able to steer you on where to find a place.

Not really looking for fancy (but will not hold it against them) just clean and friendly.

For our money, clean and friendly Treasure Coast can't be beat. Everyone that works there are eight Full Timers or Long Times so they treat you right. It's not a huge place only 160 sites, but all full hook-ups including cable tv, large cement pads and get this "Two lane internal road". Sites are angled so easy in and out. The manager generally tries to put 5th wheels along the back fence, so if you have the large rear window you're not looking at you neighbors, just a cow pasture. We'll be there from Nov to May.

We like the beach and hope to do surf fishing this winter so we are going to Treasure Coast for Jan & Feb then up to Topsail Hill for first 2 weeks in March. As I remember we stayed at Palm Beach Travelers last January for $850 including electric, its clean and friendly, we now have good friends there. We plan to make several visits to our new friends in West Palm Beach and Boynton Beach this winter. While at PB Travelers we went to several art shows, did a lot of bird watching/identification, toured the glades, did the beach, fished from the piers, and triked on the bike paths. If you like big cities this might your spot. In February we stayed in Frostproof at Rainbow Resort for $800 plus electric, its clean and friendly. This place is well managed with excellent facilities. It is way out in the country with thousands of acres of orange groves all around, if you like very rural areas this could be the one. We went to Bok Gardens, Solomans Castle, FL Flywheelers, antique car shows, and Liperszun Stalion training farm amd other stuff. In March we stayed near Inverness at Thousand Palms and it is clean and friendly. We rode our recumbent trikes on the Withlacooche bike path (46 miles long) and the other bike paths in the area, kayaked on the river with good access ramp next door and watched the Manaties over near the coast, rented pontoon boat on the protected Rainbow River, and took airboat ride on the Withlacooche. We have researched many parks in the south FL area and found the price goes up as you go south, and the elbow room goes down and you go south. We hope Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach will be a good place to have fun this winter.

We are on our way to Florida for our 7th season. Stay Nov thru March. Whatever you do, make reservations soonest. Seasonal sites at seasonal rates are getting more and more scarce as Developers buy out campgrounds and more and more snowbirds head to Florida each year. Some places do not even offer seasonal rates, just a flat daily rate. Still Plenty of places, but as you are doing, research and then make a reservation as soon as you can to make sure you have a site. Many regulars either lease or own their sites. In our park, almost all seasonal sites and all the 50amp ones, are on long term lease.

Quail Run RV Campground in Wesley Chapel, Florida has been good to us over the past five years...the "new" side has concrete pads and the campground has full-hookups throughout, including an extensive cable tv connection. The campground is centrally located in the Tampa area...relatively close to most things...including Camping World and WalMart! If you want more info, send me a PM.

You are right on about this campground, we just got here today for a week to spend with our son. Definitely plan on returning again.

Hi John,

We're workamping at Sun-n-Fun (www.sunnfunfl.com) in Sarasota, FL. In fact, we work in the reservations area! If you'd like, give us a call (we're off TH & Sun each week) and we can help make arrangements for you and tell you all about it. Take a look at the website - yes, it's not inexpensive to stay here, but the amenities are phenomenal - your wife will be very happy and you both will meet a ton of people.
Just call 941-371-2505 or 1-800-843-2421 and ask for either Suzanne or Brad.

That is a very nice park. Was over near there day before yesterday. You get a chance stop by and see Lake Rousseau RV Park & Fishing just north of Crystal River. It also is a nice park but the sites are not as large as they are there!
