Anyone have recommendations on a portable GPS unit intended for RV travel?

We've used a Rand McNally for years and love it. Garmin also makes a good one.

I would suggest staying away from the Rand McNally RV80 Tablet. Just had one and returned it because of numerous issues.
Supposed to be an Android Tablet, but it doesn't function like any Android I've had, plus while traveling a route on the New York State Thruway it suddenly gave a message that no legal route found and shut down. It doesn't work with the GoodSam Trip Planer like their standard GPS units do.

You might have a new radio installed in your truck. I had a Kenwood installed in my MH. It has a backup camera, Bluetooth and GPS and it all works great.

Rand McNally for us also. I was terribly disappointed with Magellan and replaced it with the Rand McNally within a year.

Just got the Garmen 760 RV and added a larger bridge data base. You can input your rigs information and it will keep you pretty much out of trouble. NO GPS is infallible so use common sense.

We have the Rand McNally 7735 and like most features real well, but have difficulty seeing screen when the sun comes through windshield. Have tried shade of the unit but only slightly better, it does show up good on overcast days and at night.

We use the Garmin 760 RV and have had excellent results over the last year of traveling across the country. I was use to Garmin so chose it due to that but have been very happy with the unit and the accuracy it provides.

We have the Magellan Roadmate RV 9365-LMB. We have used it for several years now. You input the size of your rig and it is supposed to navigate you around obstacles or tight turns. It has led us astray more than once, but I think all GPS units do that. It has a good big screen on it, which we like. We are still using it.

Actually our Rand McNally has never led us astray and the folks I know have said their Garmin's are the same. Not saying they're right, but you should check out this site: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/auto.../magellan.html

Yup.That's the one we had for less than a year. It had a bad habit of crashing when it was needed the most.

We use the Garmin 760 RV. But I think all units designed for RV will do the job. I do like the lifetime updates we got with the Garmin. This is abut a $100 plus.


And as many have stated, nothing is perfect. It's interesting when the unit dings and shows the message - "RV access unknown" . We also carry the manual GPS (road atlas) call "Rand McNally".

We use the basic Garmin sold at Sams...reliable with lifetime updates. It's not the RV version, never have seen a need for one of those models.

We bought RV navigation for 2 reasons. After you put your rigs measurements in, it will never take you on roads that you camper will not clear height/width restrictions, weight limits, turns that are too sharp, etc. Also gives mileage to diesel, food, ATM's.

Garmin 760 has been great. I update before every long trip.

You can get a Garmin app for your smart phone. It's the same thing as the Kenwood radio I have in my MH. And I comes with free updates.
