Glad to hear that the "big Ram" did a great job. Our 8.1 liter did a great job crossing the divide in WY(9800ft)

When you get a chance please let us know what you are seeing in MPG and remind us what rear end you are using.

Don, Perhaps you could clue me in on the difference between the Ram 3500 and your 5500? Is engine the same? What about rear end? What is your GCWR? How much does the 5500 weigh? I almost bought a Ford 450 which had a lot higher GCWR but it had a 4.73 rear end, I think, and I was turned off when the dealer said about 7-8 mpg towing.

Thanks....

I just spent about $1600.00 having ours worked on. When I paid the shop I just smiled and told them it was cheaper than making payments. We have almost 170,000 miles on ours and I hope to get at least 200,000 and maybe more out of it. Ours is starting to show its age with a little rust; maybe I can milk a little more time out of it. I do wish I had a few more amenities, maybe on the next one. I also like the crew cab model and I would like the exhaust brake also, that would really be nice. You have a nice truck!

Gcwr 26,000. Rear end 4.88. Weight is around 8,100 base curb weight from the book. Still have to weigh it and the trailer. Maybe next week.

We are getting 10 MPG towing but should improve when it gets broken in. Our previous Dodge diesel's MPG improved lots after broke in.

Same cummins engine in 3500 as 5500 but rear end and wheels and tires are heavier. 5500 has 19.5 wheels. All Dodge diesels now have the
exhaust break. Frame is heavier and stronger than the 3500. Brakes are heavier, 3500 is 13.9 inches and 5500 15.35 diameter. The fuel tank in a 3500 has standard 35gal. 5500 has standard 52 gal tank. Tranny is now designed by Mercedes.
If you see a 3500 sitting next to a 5500 this one is bigger.

Son has a 1999 Dodge diesel with over 400,000 miles on it and he is still using it in his business. That truck has worked for him in two different businesses.

That truck of yours is not only good looking, but I would have to say it is absolutely beautiful!

We have the same great results with our truck too, it is just one great tool.
