laundry bin in basement

DW is very tidy. I can't leave dirty clothes on the floor. I get on my knees on the bedroom step. Hold open the laundry shoot door with one hand, reach down and open the laundry bag with my second hand, hold the bag open with my third hand and grab my dirty laundry with my fourth hand. Wait a minute, there is something wrong with the scenario. Has anyone installed a hinge to hold the door open. If so, home made or where to buyand best way to install?

I just used a small twisted cable with electrical eyelets crimped on. Screwed one end to the floor piece and the other to the frame. Works great for me.

I just reverse all my cloths and they don't look dirty that way!

I put one of those hardware store latching arm on mine so I can use my two arms to gather stuff from the laundry basket.... I put a second one on the flip up door above our Fridge as the same problem there.

We use those collapsible nylon net hampers in ours. Two of them fit in there so you can sort clothes (light and dark). Then it only takes 2 hands, one to open and two to toss.

You could us a gas strut like on some compartment doors, or like on the back door of a truck topper. Kerry

When we had the 3400RL, we just used the wire basket that was in the hole. Just gather the clothes up with your arms, or pull the whole basket up.

Of course, we didn't have far to go with the stackables in the closet near the entrance.

I gave up using the hamper because the door would fall. We use a hamper between the dresser and the end of the slide in our 3400RL. I store the vacumn stuff in the hamper.

Hubby had to fix the door as the hinge was pulling out of the board. He just installed larger screws. We now don't step all the way to the end to keep the weight off of the hinge.

Step 1 open door 2 put in laundry basket 3 close door 4 later when basket is full open cargo door put laundry in hamper.

I took the laundry basket out when Mary was not looking and stowed Maggie, the Elkhound, food in there along with a step stool. I was amazed, Mary actually liked the idea. You can probably tell we are not the neatess folks when on the road that may explain some of the roads allure for us, huh? Jon

I took mine completely out and gained the added storage in the storage bay. We used the net ones anyway, and with just weekenders or a couple of weeks out at a time, put it in the armoire by the bed until we do laundry. We plan on purchasing the splendide 2100XC after the holidays, so will probably just keep a basket on top of the machine.

When we used ours as a hamper we had a bag wide enough to go clear around the bin. thus it was just open the door and drop in the clothes.

Now we have a real hamper in the bedroom and that laundry chute area holds cleaner materials and the central vac accessories bag.
