2008 2955rl awning
Hi all, I have a 2008 2955rl, bought used from original owner a couple years ago great shape no major issues, but I like to be prepared. I know how to manual override landing gear and slides if needed, but do not know what to do if awning will not retract. So far it has been workin fine, except it does seem to work hard at the beginning of the retract cycle. How do it close it manually if needed?
Thank you in advance.

It sounds as if you have a electric awing on your 2008 2955RL? I thought they came with a manual awning until a few years later.
What brand awning do you have? Pictures would be good.

Thanks for the replies. Mine is in fact electric, 90% sure it is Dometic. Will attempt to post photos. Close up is where the motor is.

Looks like a Dometic 9100. To manually roll it up, there are two screws you need to remove on the housing where the motor attaches to the arm. The. motor is on the arm closest to the front of the RV. Unplug the electrical connection and roll the awning up by hand and tie it off to the brackets mounted to the RV.
If you think the motor is failing, it is very easy to replace. I just replaced mine about a month ago. Unfortunately it’ll set you back $400-$500 for the part.

Thank you. So far, except for it seems struggle to roll up the first 3’ or so, it is working ok. Just wanted a plan in place in case it crapped out. Once it is rolled up and I put the screw back in place, it should stay rolled up…..yes?

It’s supposed to stay rolled up, but it may not. Ours started to unroll when traveling down the highway so I installed an awning lock to keep it closed when we travel. Have since replaced the motor so it’s no longer a problem.
