Centralized vacumn system

Do any of you have the central vac system. I was excited to get it, but now I am wondering about its value. Does not seem to have a lot of power.

We have it and love it (that reads DW mostly). I think ours is the Dometic brand, we added a small air-powered roller brush to it and it works great. Not sure what brand you have, seems like Keystone switched in 08 or 09?? Ours does not lack at all for power or suction. Are you sure that the hose doesn't have a clog in it??

Sharon, What model do you have. My central vac in my 06' 3400 rl works well. (Of course it would be better with a beater head.)

I can't remember exactly, but I know we got it at Wal-mart for around $20. It was actually in a package that was labeled for pet hair removal. It was in the aisle with the sweeper bags at the time. I think there are many brands that would fit the hose on our vacuum, others have purchased those as well, hopefully they will chip in.

On edit: Here is something similar but it had other attachments as well:

We have a dometic central vac that came with the rig. It has plenty of power and came with a bunch of accessories including a flexible accordian hose that is long enough to reach all the way forward and all the way back. Other accessories are an adjustable beater brush head, telescoping wand, a crevice tool and an upholstery brush. We also got a few extra bags.

Make sure the bag is not full and on the wand/hose/brush, make sure the vent is closed or you can lose some power to that. I do all the vacuuming in the rig because the really long hose can be pretty wieldy and DW doesn't particularly like lugging it around, but mostly since I don't mind, then it's my job and it works very good.

You might try heading back to the dealer to have it checked out. There might be some other blockage somewhere.

We have the dometic. Have added the air powered beater head. Got it at Walmart, in a package deal. We like it. Granted, it is not as good as a full sized home cleaner but it does a good job and is easier to carry.
Start looking for replacement bags early. We ended up ordering them on line using info included with the manual.

We have the Dometic that came with our new unit. The dw doesn't like it as well as the Dirt Devil I installed in our last unit. The DD had a better beater brush than Dometic has standard, however, at the Tampa show, we purchased the new beater brush and it is fantastic. It's too bad that DD offers theirs with the kit and it's an option for Dometic.
The new brush is actually battery operated and very expensive, but whatever the dw wants me to use, I guess it's never that much!

Thanks for the info on the central vac. I will look into getting a beater brush. I can't give any model numbers at this time, because like the idiots we are we traded our 08 Montana for a 2010 Hickory Edition with a better floor plan.

I really like this forum. Great people and lots of great ideas.

I forgot to mention that when we traded our 08 Montana for the new one, that it went right to storage......so we haven't really gotten to use it yet. Can hardly wait for spring. We just got another ice storm here in Iowa.

It really needs a quality beater bar to be effective. It has plenty of power. The OEM head is not effective. The hose could be a couple of feet longer for the 3400 although you can buy a extension.

We have this one....Cheap..no..Effective....yes

One air powered beater bar is called Turbo Vac Zoom, We have it on our Dometic also and works well. It could run anywhere between $50 and $100 dollars. It depends on how much time you want to search.

We have the Dometic Central and have had 2 different beater heads. We also have a regular bagless upright which is so much easier to use. We hope we get something for the central vac when we trade in our unit or sell it because we both feel it rates up there as a foolish expendature and would not do it again.

Our 2008 3400RL has the InterVac central vacuum system. I did see an optional power head for this brand at the Tampa RV show with a battery charger. They sell for 130-150 depending on promotions.

If you have the InterVac system, located at Palm City FL you can call them toll free at 888-499-1925 for additional info/assistance. If interested in the Power Head, I would even ask them for the Tampa RV price.

Because you have a new system this recommendation may not apply but change your bags frequently and clean/replace the Exhaust Filter on a frequent basis. Consider pet issues as well if they apply.

I have no personal investment in this company, just pulling info from our operating manual and the RV show. Good luck.

The central vac is good for getting the dust off window frames and such, useless on carpets.

But then we have two golden retrievers.........
