Air compressors are all about cfm's and tank size. Psi over 125 is seldom ever needed. Mfg's like to tout HP and psi, but like water through a straw vs. a fire hose, it's how much volume you move per minute that matters.

I carry a an old Craftsman 12VDC since the tires, TV and 5er only have 80 psig max psig capacity. I do have a P-C pancake as well s an I-R shop compressor for home use if I need air and more cfm there.


Would I like a Vlair - sure but cannot justify the cost to have it, just in case I might need it someday.

funny my tires don't lose air check them before I leave on my trip and they stay fine the entire trip. Same with my truck those tires are always full.. i only check every once in a while. if you check them often than you lose air every time. I carry one but never used it for a tire.

In my first SOB I had a small Craftsman w/3 gal. tank that went to 120lbs. Was ok, but took long to pump up to 80 lbs. Got the Monty w/110 lb tires and got a Bostich pancake that went to 150 lbs. Bostich had better cfm. Both were 110v. Both were heavy and took up space. This spring I picked up a Craftsman 110/12v tankless that also will run on a power tool battery, not included. I like the Viair, but this one was only $65 and it will pump up my tires to 110 in about 10 minutes. I tested it on the spare that was down to 85 psi. It's maybe 1/4 the weight and takes up far less space. A good solution for my needs.

For may last trailer I carried an 3Gal Craftsman, it struggled to bring the truck or trailer tires to 60 and 80lbs.

I bought a VIAIR 45053 and am amazed how quickly it brought the tires form 100 to 110, and so small.

Harbor freight 150 lbs. Have used it many times to keep 110 lbs in the tires, but when I was using the Marathon 80 lb stock tires, I needed the air gun on the side of the road to swap out tires when they went flat. Also have a nail gun I find useful for other situations
