South Carolina

Kids are wanting us to move closer to Aiken, SC. For those who live in SC - what are the costs to register vehicles - truck and Montana?

Yes, we know about the state income tax , but with my disability pay, pensions and DW retirement very little will be taxed.

Anything else I need to know?

Be aware that if you're a SC resident that you have to pay property tax on vehicles, RVs, boats, etc. Annually.

I had my vehicles registered in SC. When I was there the plates on my vehicles where expensive and based on value of vehicle. I'm not sure about a 5th wheeler, but my friends 2005 Beaver Motor Home was $2100 this year to plate. My 2025 1/2 ton Chevy was about $600 to plate last year.
You can call them with your vin number and they can tell you how much it will cost and the fees to register it in the state.

We’re looking at a house in Summerville. To get out of California when the wife retires. I’m 100% va davprm. In California my registration is zero for my truck. I think in SC it’s the same. But I have the trailer which is 667 in California, sounds like it’s just about the same to register there as it is in California. Unless SC allows for more then one DV plate..?

Property tax is cheap in comparison to California, as being 100% even that is waived up to 5acres plus house. The registration fees are a shock !

We were in Charleston over the summer. Wife fell in love with the area, we looked into Texas several times each time there was a disaster. Hurricane then flooding near Houston so SC it is.

Small world. We are looking at Lennar homes it’s a plan called the Elliot.

I tried looking up DV plates in South Carolina, some say free, others are 20$. Not sure if it’s 1 vehicle or 2. I may need to call...
