Internet Data Access

What are you full timers doing do internet/data access. Our phone has a 5GB limit - we'll burn thru that going full time.

found this: https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/att...o-roadlink-c2/

but not sure that's the real answer.

Interested in your input.

I believe you must use the Togo Roadlink C2 rooftop device. The verdict is still out on the coverage this device provides. We use a Netgear Nighthawk hotspot with AT&T for $20 a month unlimited. Some throttling after 22 GB's but have never noticed a performance hit. Only two places we have had a problem getting service are Rock Springs Wy. and Hawthorne Nv. We have traveled all over the country and we are very happy. Some people use a Mobley, also $20 a month.

Your mileage may vary,

It looks like ATT Mobley plan is no longer available. Dang!

I have used a Verizon jet pack for the last 10 years (both pre-retirement for work, and since fulltime) Overall I have found good service at a reasonable monthly fee. Of course there will be those locations where all cell service is poor.

thanks for the input - looks like I have some shopping to do - Heard several comment on using Verizon - unfortunately, S&B does extremely poor with Verizon. May still go that way - see what the window shopping teaches me.

We've used Verizon for 9 years of full timing since we sometimes go to places that still don't do well with AT&T. T is getting better, but there are still some gaps way out where we hang.

I have Verizon mifi I use it at the S&B but use a LTE booster to get better signal works great for me. Went from two bars to full with booster.

Was just on the Verizon website looking at the Jet-Pack/MiFi's and they only offer 1 "New" model, the 8800L for $99, and then 2 other pre-owned models. Unfortunately the 8800L has a 2 star out of 5 star rating. The biggest complaint is that the signal constantly gets dropped. Curious as to what model you guys are using as you seem to be satisfied or better with their performance? I'm in the market for one within the next few weeks and would appreciate any/all feedback. Thanks!

Nave question ... What's S&B?

I'm curious why you wouldn't increase the data package thru a phone provider and use hotspot from your phone? Seems like if you have a shared data plan (presumably unlimited or designed for your usage) would suffice. If only one of you carries a data plan, then another device makes sense. But I'm thinking sharing data across two phones is more economical than adding a third device at a monthly cost?

Help me understand.

Thanks.

data through your phone is inferior to data from a dedicated modem. If you have low internet needs then by all means use your phone, but if you plan to stream or do other intensive internet activity... get the jet pack or similar.

Net Buddy

Net Buddy is great. $60 a month unlimited data and no throttling. It uses AT&T 4G network and has been very reliable. Never had any problems anywhere.

Do all of these plans require a year long commitment? Or can you go monthly?

I was fortunate to get in on the original ATT MOBLEY plan and it works GREAT! Connect 5 devices and unlimited data for $20 month ($23 with taxes). Maybe they will offer it again when pigs fly.

The folks at the referenced website have been chasing and figuring out data on the road for several years. At one time they published a book on why and wherefore different mobile technology comes in to play. What they suggest has changed with technology over the years. Looks like they found a new favorite.

Technorv has also published some info on data on the road options.

Like others have said purpose built equipment often performs better than you can also use it for built equipment.

We use Verizon jet pack. The only phone and data service is Verizon. We run the house and business off of it.
