Bedroom AC

Hi everyone... we just have a quick question about the 2nd AC

Does the bedroom AC work like the living room AC?

There does not appear to be an auto setting on the bedroom AC unit.

We set the temp to 73 degrees but it never went off like the living room AC does when it reaches the set temp.

How exactly does the bedroom AC work compared to the main living room AC?

Thanks!

If it came from the factory they should be the same. If it was installed later we would need more info on type of unit, type of thermostat and how it was installed.

Yes it came from the factory...we thought it should be the same as the main one.
I can’t seem to get it to the auto position
It just shows a fan symbol n says low n low cool
The living room one says auto.
Is there a way to get it to auto cool?

Thanks

Sharon, Tracy and Emma,

I recently asked the same question in a different way. After this weekend, I am considering switching our bedroom AC to one like the living area when we began to travel in our new coach in a couple of years,

I received several suggestions instructing me to go through the settings, using the Mode Switch. When I got to 'Fan' I was supposed to use the Up and Down arrows on the right side of the thermostat until I had the screen say "High". Then I was to return to cool or the 'snowflake' as I like to call it.

I did all of that and the AC in the bedroom, that is directly over the foot of the bed, ran the remainder of the time I was trying to sleep. The unit in the rear of the coach, or over the living space and kitchen, seems to cut on and off like a normal residential AC unit would do.

After the bedroom unit ran until about mid morning, I switched it back to Auto. My dilemma is that the bedroom unit would begin to come on, run for just a few minutes, then cut off for a VERY brief period. Then it would go through the same cycle, on/off, on/off, on/off.

I will be interested in watching what appears in your thread, but I will be in contact with Keystone tomorrow.

Good luck to us both,

John in humid NC

We have a 2018 Montana 3121RL and has 15K in bedroom Penguin II by Donetic, never seems to cycle off so it runs all the time but it is ducted in the whole coach with the rear Brisk Air II Donetic which also has a heat pump. The Rear AC cycles on and off but bedroom one seems to always run in our unit as well.

Wicked1,

That is the same set-up as we have. Would like to know why the one in the front bedroom has to run all the time. Do you realize that bets to be pretty expensive? Of course you do.

Our old Cougar, prior to getting totaled by a pine tree as the result of the remnants of Hurricane Michael last October, would come on, run for a while, then shut off until the temperature rose above the thermostat setting. Then it would come on again and cool the coach down and shut off, etc. I expected the bedroom AC in our new coach to 'act' the same way.

I just want to know why it doesn't.

Thanks for your reply to my inquiry.

John

If the fan is set on anything but auto, the fan will run all the time.

Oddly our bedroom A/C cycles off and on correctly. Keeps it nice and cool for sleeping!

It seems to me the main a/c in the living quarters "short cycles" meaning it runs blowing cold air then you can hear the compressor kick out and fan continue to run for a few minutes then back to compressor running.

I do run the main quarters a/c on "high" and the bedroom on "auto" mode.

Thanks Carla and Darwin for passing on your experience. I have contacted a local Dometic approved service representative to take a look at it on Saturday when I am again back at our unit that is on a permanent site inside a campground for about another year or two, then we plan to head out on the road.

Just to update you all....we ran our factory installed bedroom ac with the mode on auto
Set the temp to 74 degrees

It came on met the set temp n turned off...so it’s working like the main living ac
Thanks again for all your replies and good luck to those of you still searching. We would be interested to hear any results.

Mine has an auto fan setting. The only thing it does not have is heat pump functionality.

We run both in auto and adjust temp to turn bedroom off at night. Sometimes living room off during the day. Both seem to be ok so far.

My bedroom AC I can here the compressor cycle on and off, but the fan always runs. Dometic told me that is the way to do it. When I had it AUTO mode, the AC would run, and cool done the upstairs, and shut down. Never would come back on again. Had the unit replaced and the thermostat, same results. So now I dont bother trying to figure it out. Another RV tech told me that the units might freeze up when they cycle, so its good to leave the fan mode in HI or LO, so when the compressor shuts off, the air blows over the coils and keeps them from freezing. I have been doing this the last 2 years and all seems well, and I have good air movement in the coach.

I have the 3931FB 2019 and the app has HVAC but doesn’t respond, the In Command people said it could have something to do with the thermostat, have you run into this ?

Our living room AC is set to auto and I can hear the compressor go off, but the unit stays on. The bedroom unit (also set to auto) goes off when it reaches temp and no fan. I spoke to a gal at Keystone and here is what she said:

"A/C pulls 15-20 degrees of heat from air (if it’s 100 degrees inside it will cool the air to 80-85 degrees; compressor shuts down, fan will run and dry the coil and compressor will start again).
We do recommend 10 degree increments to start (100 degrees outside; set thermostat to 90 degrees inside; move the thermostat down to 80 degrees and so on).
If you have a dial type thermometer you can test your A/C by doing the following.

Put thermometer in the filter (which is on the intake side) turn unit on “high cool” get reading. Then go to the closest vent to the A/C and get that reading. If it is 15-20 degrees cooler than the outside temperature than your A/C is working as designed. If it is not then we ask for a dealership to contact Keystone with reading[/I] for review."

Hope this helps.

And this my friends is why I'm preparing to install a mini split unit in our rig.
120 volt and going to be a hole lot cheaper to operate and much quieter.
