Info about bridge clearances

Does anyone know of a website or an app that lists clearances of bridges and overpasses on highways? We like to travel off the interstates but are a bit reluctant with our RV, not knowing about whether or not we would clear the bridges.

I used to have one, I think All Stays authored it. Dumped it from my phone when we got the Rand McNally RV GPS a few years ago. For a while we were checking the GPS with a truckers atlas, but seldom do anymore. It was always spot on.

Here is a link to the AMERICAS INDEPENDENT TRUCKERS ASSOCIATION web site. click on the 'Information' tab. You may have to agree to their terms and conditions. Then click on the state that you want, choose 'Low Clearance/Bridge Heights/Restricted Rules' and there ya go. will let you know bridge heights, where they are and what route they are on. Hope this helps. Tim

We purchased a copy of the Motor Carrier's Road Atlas. This has a section for Low Clearance by state, by road. When I plan out our trip, I compare the route I get from either Google or the GPS to the MCRA and look for problems.

I also utilize a Trucker's Atlas. I think I purchased mine at a Pilot or another truck stop and it was probably around $50.00. I do depend on my Rand RV GPS but I also try to consult the Trucker's Atlas each evening prior to the next days travel for the low bridges. Another reason the Trucker's Atlas can come in handy is if you need to take a detour because of a accident, disaster, or some road closure that the Rand GPS doesn't know about. I just like having accurate trucking maps available, guess I am old fashion.....heck if the GPS sats ever went out half the folks traveling in the U.S. would be lost!

Great information! Thanks for sharing. (Thinking about clearance height can give me travel timidity!)
