red ice cubes

I have a Samsung residential refer (Model RF18HFENBSP) in my '16 High Country. When cold weather set in while in TN we turned off ice maker which was working ok. Bled the line so as not to freeze. When we reached FL turned it back on and started getting red ice. This cleared up after several cycles but wondered why. Have had it produce pink ice at start of use several times in the past but this time it was scary to say the least. Can't figure it out. Don't use any antifreeze. Anyone got any ideas????: facepalm:

Could be high iron content or bacteria that produces pink to red water line in toilet bowls is my guess. If you don't have really good filtration system and not full timers, maybe it is time to put some chlorophyll in your water hose and let it cycle through your lines. Of course, then you will have to flush that out if you don't like the chlorine taste in your cubes.

You have never used antifreeze to winterize your camper?

Since there's nothing special about the residential frig in an RV just google discolored ice cubes or something similar. It's not all good. Couldn't find red, but did find blue/green, cloudy, white flecks etc. Basically something may be going on with the water left in the lines between uses and needs attention.

Just an FYI if you drained the line and not open the Solenoid their would be water in the line above the solenoid up to the Ice Maker.

Thanks all.
Everything seems to be cleared up now that it has run through several cycles. I will remember to open the solenoid next time to see what that does.
Again, THANKS
This forum is great to find out what gives with our Montanas.
Happy new year to all.

Probably antifreeze in the line above the solenoid that did not get drained out.

PInk ice cubes are nothing to worry about in our opinion. Just clear them out as you have done.

Not to sound stupid, but if it's anti-freeze isn't it, you know, not supposed to freeze?

Most residential refrigerators have a water filter built into them. You say you never used antifreeze in your rig but if it was built during the winter months Keystone or the dealer could winterized it. If they ran antifreeze to through the frig water filter, this could very well be the source of the red ice cubes. The filter will actually filter out the red dye in the antifreeze and it could mix in with the water when the ice maker is not used for any extended period.
Find the water filter and change it out, your red ice should go away for good.
I hope this helps.
