The DRW can have up to #5944 of payload and hit the #31k mark at the goose/fifth wheel. If I'm towing a trailer that heavy, I'm buying a semi (used)

Lot of questions. I’ll try to answer. No it doesn’t normally use all the gears. It normally starts in first and shifts to third then goes through the rest. It will shift into tenth at about 60 usually at or under 1500 RPMs. Is it better than the 6 speed, nicer yes, better in what way, it should be more fuel efficient and I think it probably is from the records I keep.
It’s never been loaded. It’s a pavement queen.
I had a 2015 F150 2.7 same as this truck with a 6 speed. I think I like this transmission better. This transmission will shift into the gear needed. It will for insurance go from tenth to seventh.
The next question people ask is why did you get rid of your 2015, 2.7 and get a 2018 2.7? I always tell them “Fords don’t last very long”.
No issues with this or the 2015 and I think the 2.7 Ecoboost is the nicest engine I’ve ever owned. 325 HP and 400 TK on regular and probably 350 on 93 high test. This truck according to Road and Track will out run the 67 GTO I had when I was young.

Looking at the online brochure, they have added expanded camera views that provide more views than Ford currently does. I do not use half of Fords and I think many of GMs will be just noise also.

GMs TPMS DOES include Temperature- Nice add. Touts lower bed rails and bedside steps for us vertically challenged.

If I was going to be hit by an rv, I would prefer that it was by an overloaded 3/4 ton. Willful neglence by a motor vehicle operator makes it a lot easier to recover from your losses and with a lot less time in court.

I have a older GM TV, I just changed all the 2500 HD trim emblems to the 3500 and that stopped all the questions, they just ask me how it does with a gasser

Not sure of that $75K price. My 2017 2500HD extended cab, 4WD, 8' bed was $45K new, off the lot.

2019 Ford Ford F250 6.7 diesel Reg Cab lwb w/.331 rear end 5th wheel towing cap is 18,500 also. 2020 will probably increase. Dodge probably can do the same.

I'll still opt for the 1 ton dually. Call it overkill if you want, but it's cheap insurance when you've got a big TT or 5'er in tow.


I assume a lot of you have heard the sales staff of a RV Center tell you that a particular TT you are looking at can be towed with a 3/4 ton just fine. Don't fall for that. Their motivation is to get TTs off the lot.


Insurance companies will certainly check your towing capacity and rig weight if you have a claim. Don't take any chances.

I checked with my insurance agent to see if I were overnweight would Allstate cover me. They called Allstate “yes you are covered”. It’s really no different than driving over the speed limit, running a red light or driving while impaired.

Yes you should check with your insurance company. If they take your money they haft to cover you or they could always find an excuse to deny coverage.

No problem, with your insurance covering you, but there is a little thing called "Civil Suite" and if you're in the wrong you better have coverage in the Millions. Just watch those Accident Lawyer adds from folks giving the details of how much more they got than the Insurance Company offered.

18,500 or 140,000 makes little difference if the payload is not there on a SRW. As far as a dually, I'm one and done ~ never again.

Sure, you will be covered to the limits of your policy. That's not the problem. If you are driving while impaired and have a claim you will have coverage to the limits of your policy for that claim (but most likely not much longer than that, as they will cancel you). The problem is the lawyers will have a great deal of fun with you. No matter if you like it or not they will come after you if you are in an accident and you are over any one of your "limits" they will put you on a negligence hook and your insurance company will just kind of look at you funny. I work in the legal industry. My attorneys love finding that kind of stuff. Kind of like a dog finding a new bone to play with.

Oh bad news you may not get buy for 75 or 80 for a top of the line ride. A new F150 Limited stickers for 70 plus. It comes standard with 450 horse power and 510 TK.

Not sure where you are looking at F150 trucks at, but we just purchased a 2019 F350 Lariat Dually fully loaded with everything including the 5th wheel package and the sticker was only $73,000...and nobody in their right mind pays sticker

But Linda that is the Lariat. The 2019 F350 Limited Dually starts at $83,090 according to Ford's website when I threw in a few options I was over 88 and quit there. Now you are right nobody pays sticker but I don't know that you could get a fully loaded one for much lower than the 78-80,000.

Gotcha..I was referring to the cost of an F150 being so high. We've owned (2) fully loaded Lariat F150's and never spend near that..nor for the F350 SRW or the DRW. I don't know what is on the Limited, but I know we originally looked at a black Platinum and the dealer couldn't name one thing that was on it that wasn't also on the Lariat package or already on the one F350 SRW that we were trading in as an option..except the fancy silver plate on the tailgate that said "Platinum"! I told him I don't need that fancy plate..I just want the same (blue) truck we already have with 2 more wheels on the back!! So that's what he found us! haha

The sticker price for a 2019 F150 Limited I priced on line was over $72,000. The sticker price for a Lariat usually is $60,000 or over. A XLT with cloth seats can be well over $50,000.

I don’t know what you can buy one for that is between you and the dealer. A lot of things determine what your dealer will take for a vehicle.

Lets see the difference between the Laramie package and the Limited package...other than about $10,000. Without being an expert on Ford trucks I would guess that some of the things that are options on the Laramie come standard on the Limited. The Limited series is their top of the line. Everything you need and some things you don't even know what to do with but sure look pretty.

There are also certain times of the year that are best to buy..end of year and end of quarters you can usually get better deals because it is in the best interest of the dealership to make their sales numbers higher so they get bigger kickbacks from manufacturer. We just purchased the dually Saturday and got over $11,000 in sales incentives off the sticker before even really negotiating anything.

I get a kick out of reading all these over weight arguments and stuff. I agree that you should buy the vehicle that can tow the weight and be safe because that is the smart thing to do for your safety and others. I read all about this liability and lawsuits if your over weight and an accident takes place. I was in law enforcement for 36 years and worked with WSP and our traffic division as a city police lieutenant. Citations are issued but it usually is because speed, following to closely or some other traffic violations was the main cause of accident. I never saw or heard of an accident where they said the trailer and tow vehicle was over weight. I never saw or heard of a law suit for that matter. I am sure that their must be some but if the trailer is rolled or destroyed it is going to be very difficult to reconstruct the trailer to get a true reading on the weight. If their are any lawyers on here I would love to hear from them. Once again I am not arguing the point of proper weight and safety. I just find it interesting all the comments about lawsuits and insurance companies won’t cover you if your over weight. Get on the scales as others have said and if your overweight its your call but I do agree if I get a heavier trailer I will be getting a 1 ton and or dually. I have insurance and was never asked what truck or trailer I had. Guess they would know by looking at the truck and trailer information.

As any good 5th wheel RVer knows, forget all those glossy numbers in the brochure.

The tow capacity is the truck's GCWR minus the weight of the tow vehicle when ready to tow (loaded with pin weight and ALL else). The easy way is to use the GCWR and subtract the truck's GVWR.
