Monty full time???????

Hi All,
Been having some opportunities with Monty, and just got off the phone with Keystone Customer Service and was told that Keystone Montana's are for recreational use only and not for full time living. My wife and I are just starting out with the workamping lifestyle and have a 3402 rl, and are shocked to hear we can't live in our Monty full time....per the manufacturer..Keystone. Any one else heard that we can't live in our Monty full time????

At the Fall Rally the president of Keystone, Mike Mack, made the statement a number of times in front of many different individuals that the Montana line is their "full timers" line. My guess would be that Keystone Customer Service is worried about folks who plop them down in a stationary spot and live in them. What would you call full timing if it's not recreational living?

I have heard statements like that before. I suspect these units ARE manufactured for use as only part time recreational homes. When full time all the systems get utilized daily instead of just on weekends, thus everything wears out quicker. We know we can live full time in our 3400 because others have been doing it for years and years. We also understand that, unlike our stick house, we have to do more preventive maintenance plus more items will wear out quicker. His statement is about like saying a Harley is only for summer riding only and not for all year riding in the central United States.

HUH?! I thought Harleys were only for weekends and you have to buy lots of chrome and leather stuff. Learn something new every day.

That doesn't apply to Goldwings, rode mine all winter long until we went full time. My common sense has been questioned at times, however.

You have not rode a motorcycle to it's full potential until you ride when after 20 minutes you cannot feel your toes or nose (or fingers)!

Posting the same question in several areas is bad form. It also makes it difficult to conduct a meaningful dialog.

Not sure that I fully agree that lack of use makes the systems last longer. In many mechanical systems lack of use causes more rapid deterioration. With regular use systems remain lubricated, seals remain pliable and so on. The longer that a unit is stored, the more chance that systems will seize up or fail from lack of use. I can relate this to my generator on my rig. The instructions say that at least once per month, I should run it under full load to keep all parts properly lubed and working. The longer it sits unused, the more chance for startup damage from lack of use. The same logic can be applied to the use of the refrigerator, hydraulic systems and seals in the plumbing.

nobody, outside of who you talked to, says you can't live in your RV....just do it if it fits your life style. lots of people do it so don't let that one phone call change your mind. we like our 3402, nice unit to "live" in.

take a look at the bottom of this page from montana rv: http://montana.keystonerv.com/ gee, they advertise a "full time living package"

enjoy your travels.

here is an interesting website too: http://www.montana55.com/134-lifesty...ife-in-montana

Somebody should have told me that when I lived in my 2006 3400. We full timed for over 4 years without another residence. We had minor problems with it but nothing major due to fulltime living. I guess I was recreating in it instead of living fulltime.

The Fulltime Living Package is just the name of a "forced" package. You can NOT buy a Montana with out it.

Since we only spend 8 months a year in ours, guess we are OK?

We full timed for over six years and everything held up nicely. Now we spend half a year full timing in Florida in the winter, and everything holds up nicely. We have however always replaced the couch, recliners, faucets, and mattress with good quality products.

Of course you can live full time in the Rv any brand many folks do. Are they designed for full time use??IMO no. We are living in ours full time now for six months and have done that in two Montana's for the last 7 years.
Our 06 3400 "held up nicely" in term of interior items for the 7 years we had it. Can't say the same for a list of other items like holding tanks, frame stress, U bolts. Graphics, Tires.

We do what we need to do and adapt to the circumstances. These things are NOT built to be a residence and that is what "Full timing" is.

If you always want something to work on, buy a RV

Better yet buy a boat, they put RV's to shame for "needing something to work on" but anyway lived in my 3402rl for going on 3 years in the soggy NW All's good

All I have to say is that many have and are living full time in them and having great success. If my DW would agree, we would join them.

Does this mean we have to "give back" the 4 years we have full timed in our Montanas?
