Grease zert not accepting grease

I had the wet bolt system installed at Mor/ryde International inElkhart,In. I have one lower zert on the right rear axle that won't take grease. Tried jacking up axle to relieve pressure, but still can't get grease in. Any suggestions as how to fix problem? Do I need to try and take out and reinstall? How hard is that?

I recently had two that would not take grease so I finally pulled the bolt out and turned it a quarter turn and pressed it back in the shackle and reinstalled them and they work fine now. The opening was on the top of both and it just would not let the grease through.

Did you jack up your rig to take pressure off and then take off? Which nut did you loosen, the one with the zert or the other one? Did it come out easy, or how did you get it out? How did you press it back in?

Had to jack both wheels then take wheels off and take the bolt and shackle off because the bolt with the grease fitting is pressed into the shackle so it won't turn without taking it out. You will need to support the frame also.

You may want to try loosening the nut on the bolt and see if it will take grease. I had one that worked on.

I'll try loosening the nut first since I don't have the facilities to work on it too that extent. What is the torque for those nuts? I put a crescent wrench on the nuts and couldn't budge them. Will need a breaker bar to loosen them. Thanks for the advice.

Hi,

DO NOT try and turn the bolt head. The bolt has serrations next to the bolt head and it "bites" into the outer spring hanger. The serrations keeps the bolt from rotating so the grease hole always stays where it is orientated.

You would loosen the nut on the inside, and then punch the bolt out, you will see why the head will not turn. You need to have the weight off the spring hanger using proper safe lifting methods.

Torque on the wet bolt nut is 50 ft lbs.

Mor/Ryde says the grease hole should be on the bottom. 6 O'clock. Grease with the weight off the axles.

This is very useful information. Keeps me from approaching this issue from the wrong side of the bolt.

I think I would call Mor/Ryde and tell them the problem. If they are as reputable as I'v heard they shoul tell you where to take it to have it fixed for free.

I sent them an e-mail several days ago asking what I could do and so far no response from them. I have a Montana dealership a couple miles away that could do the fix and I think they owe me that remedy. I plan on calling them Monday to ask them, why no response.

I had trouble with getting my wet bolts to take grease - until I went to a bigger grease gun. Those single 6" grease guns won't do the job. You have to be able to exert a fair amount of pressure with a larger gun...

All other zerts took grease without a problem. The lower rear one would not. Still think Mor Ryde did not install that one right and inspect before sending me out. Still no response from Mor-Ryde. Not very good customer service.
