axles
I have a 2003 keystone Montana and I am not sure what axles I have under my trailer. I have the 6 lug hubs with round tube. I am wanting to replace my brake assembly. I have 12 inch drums And i believe 2 1/2 shoes.
Not much information in the little book that came with the trailer.
Thank You
Art

What model fiver do you have? You probably have 5200 or 6000# axles under it. Probably 12 X 2 brakes. Look on the axle tube for numbers stamped on them containing something like D50 / D60 / D70. You may have Dexter or you may have ALCO axles. 5200# and 6000# axles use the same brakes. In 2003, they hadn't come out with self adjusting standard equipment brakes as are on newer units, but they are compatible with your unit. Jack up an axle and pop off the brake drum ... many times the backing plate has a part tag on it showing what brake assy. Make sure you put the RH brakes on the RH side and the LH brakes on the LH side ... they are different.

Go to Etrailer.com or Trailerpartssuperstore. com for best prices on replacement brake assemblies. I agree with the above, either 5200 or 6000# axles if 6 lug. If you can get under the unit, there should be a tag on the axles somewhere to know for sure.

My 2007 has a tire inflation label near the driver side propane compartment that has the axle rating on it. Haven't actually looked to see if a marking on the axles agrees with it.

I have a 2005 2955RL. I have 8 lugs and 5200 lb axles. The axles are labeled D52.

Thanks guys. I wish there was more information when you get your 5er. I have all these books and they are so vague it's hard to figure stuff out.

You'll find most all the books that came with your RV are very generic. They won't tell you much more about your suspension than tire pressure and maybe lug torque. They will spend an entire page or two on how to be careful ... to cover their A__. Find the model numbers of things in your unit and search the Web for their manuals.

Should be a metal tag somewhere on the axle. I'd just pull a hub to determine shoe size. It's also easier, I think, to order a complete brake set with the backing plates. I've had good luck and pricing with e-trailer.com.
