Traveling from Denver to Phoenix

I will be traveling form Denver to Phoenix and would like to go through Grand Junction and then down near Moab. How are the roads. I am pulling a 38 foot with my F350. Dont really want to pull through switch backs and big mountain roads. I guess you can call me a flat lander but I have never been in that part of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona and would like to give it a try. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This time of year I-70 from Denver to Grand Junction is no problem pulling your rig (We've driven this route with our 35' rig). Considerations are weather and road conditions. Be aware that you will be going over Vail pass and through Eisenhower tunnel. I-70 is shorter with fewer passes than route 50.

Once over the pass(es) it's smooth sailing. I do not recommend passes in the snow season.

We took that route 2 winters ago and the roads were multi lane and no issues with switch backs, etc. Lots of construction from Vail to Denver but should think it is all finished now. There are some very steep grades so just keep the speed down by starting the descent in a lower gear or use the engine brake if you have one. We lost our trailer brakes and kept the truck in 2nd gear most of the way down. Sure wished I still had my Ram with the engine brake. Ford, in its wisdom, didn't offer one on our 2011 model.

Thanks for the replies. I leave on Monday from the Chicago area and relocating to Phoenix. My little brother graciously agreed to fly up and travel with me on this trip. We decided to go through colorado instead of the boring drive through missouri, oklahoma, new mexico so that we could see the sites of Colorado, Utah, Northern Arizona. Sure hope it does not kill us flat landers. Thanks again.
