Honda 2000i vs Apollo oven

I am thinking of getting a 2000 watt inverter generator like a Honda or Kipor to use when I don't need A/C and the bigger generator I have. For those who have one, will it run the microwave portion of the dual microwave/ convection oven?
Thanks, Ken

Ken,
I have the Honda 2000 and it does not run the micro portion of the 1/2 time oven. When on the generator and trying to start the oven, the oven will try to start but then the generator goes "off-line" forcing a reset of the circuit protection on the generator. Other than that, I am completely satisfied with the performance of the generator. It is quiet, efficient and will run everything (other than the micro), and will even run my A/C (15k BTU)if that is the only thing I demand of it. It has an "Economy" setting that only lets the engine run at the RPM required to support the load. I also use it as a back-up for the stick house through a transfer switch as we have a number of power outages here on Whidbey Island.

Jack,
Thanks for the feedback. If the 2000 Honda won't work, then I may want to get the Yamaha 2400 inverter generator. I would like to be able to run the microwave when boondocked. Has anyone tried the Yamaha on the microwave? And did it work?

As far as I remember (we haven't boon docked for a while), my Honda 2000i will run the microwave. Admittedly, nothing else electrical can be on and you can not be in "Economy" mode (the Honda doesn't spin up fast enough for the start-up load of the microwave).

Now I am going to have to go out in the morning and verify my recollection.

Our Honda 2000i ran the microwave side OK, but did have to turn off the hotwater heater. Didn't turn off the freezer, TV and sat. receiver.

I purchased 2 Hondas with the parallel kit. They both fit nicely in the front compartment, and are light enough to be moved, easily. I use one when no A/C needed (so I can use the microwave) and 2 if I want a full 30 amps service.

snfexpress:

Do you find that you need to bypass the ecothrottle when using one of the Hondas with the microwave as others have indicated? Also, was your Monty setup with the generator prep pack or did you set it up yourself?

No eco-throttle as the micro needs full on power. The 2 hondas are in the front basement and no gen prep. I take them out and run them near the rear of the 5er, chained to the axel so as not to run away.

Thanks! That's pretty much what we are planning to do but are still learning.

Thanks for the input everyone. It looks like the Honda 2000i will run most everyones microwave half of the Apollo oven, albeit marginally.
