Millenicom

Does anyone use this provider. We were thinking of getting their 20G plan with the Hot Spot. We understand it is Verizon and we were wondering if you can use it for Netflix and can you shut it down for awhile then reactivate it.

We use Millenicom and have the 20G plan. It is with Verizon and uses the Verizon Jetpack. How well 20G would work is best explained here

This is a no contract plan so you can turn it on and off, I have no idea what the restrictions are.

We have been using Millenicom (Verizon) for going on 4 years now. They have been great. We have the USB 760 3G adapter with a Cradlepoint router. I don't think they offer the Verizon 3G USB 760 anymore. The 4g Jet Pack is my next step. When you are out West 4G is not as readily available as it is in the Eastern part of the country. This is really noticeable when you look at the Verizon 4G coverage map. We use Millenicon for our home needs also. Great way to go.
I believe you can also connect an external antenna to the Jet Pack.

We Have here in Wa state a 4g Verizon jetpack hotspot with 5 gig data plan and there is No way you can use that for streaming Netflix since you suck up about 3-4g watching 1 movie It goes QUICK!!! SOOO even 20gig would not last long, streaming Netflix is great if you have home unlimited hardwired internet ..not so much for Jetpacks

Bigskyjimmy is giving you good advice, you would not want to use Millenicom to stream Netflix or movies because you would find your limits before you wanted to. That could be a real problem. In 3g areas you might also have a problem with movies or videos loading up. They would start and stop a lot.

According to Netflix you can set your streaming quality at medium and only use 0.7G/hr. If you set on high and stream HD then that's a whole different story.

I've had Mellenicom for the last few months also on Verizon. I haven't tried streaming but have my doubts that it would work very well, aside from the 20G limit. At least where we've been what I've noticed is under heavy load latency goes through the roof (2000-3000ms) and packets start to drop. I've resorted to running fun traffic through my ATT device and work traffic through the Mellenicom device. I can deal with slow internet for play but makes working a challenge.

We had Mellenicom for years and it worked well until a couple of years ago when we started to have hung up websites and dropped websites. We are, most of the time, in the very rural west or very rural mid-west and at that time Mellenicom didn't offer a 4g option. We went with Verizon's 4g jetpack and it's been great so my assumption would be that if you can get that jetpack on Mellenicom you'd be fine and your bill would be significantly less than mine.

Interesting that everyone is saying that Millenicom is Verizon. I sent them an email asking if my Verizon Jetpack could be used with their Bring Your Own Device plan and this is the reply I received:

Devices usable with the BYOD plan

A 3G or 3G/4G data device (excluding tablets, and internal or embedded devices), not voice, that works over the Sprint mobile broadband network (4G LTE where available).

We cannot activate Verizon cards for Bring Your Own Device.

Maybe you need to ask a different question. If you sign up for the 20G plan and buy their mifi it is a Verizon jetpack

Some of their plans are on Sprint and some on Verizon. I have had them for a couple of years and I talked to them last week and they said all plans are now unlimited even though they advertise different just in case they want to start limiting later. I have been completely satisfied with them.

The BYOP is thru the Sprint lines. Just in the last couple of weeks I have heard that they have now discontinued that plan. The 20G plan using the Verizon network is an excellent choice, but I am not so sure out west. When I was out there I had no problem for the most part. Now if you decide to go to with the 20G you will get the Jetpack 4620 and I can tell you I had a lot of problems with that unit as did a lot of others. In short the problem is that if you are on the edge of a 4G area or out of the area the unit keeps seeking 4G for the better service but when it can't it goes into a mode of "Dormant", which just drops all signal. To cure it you had to reboot the unit. This was last summer that I went to this unit because this is all they offer. I had tech help me put the unit into 3G only as I was out of range for 4G. This helped for awhile but it got old. Answer to that was buy a Pantech UML290 usb type modem and put the sim card from the 4620 into the UML290 with a sim card adapter. No problems since and great service. Be informed though, doing this voids the warranty of the 4620, is what I am told.

All these problems I had was last summer and they knew of the problem and was working on it. They may very well have cured the problem and working fine. I sure hope so, as it's pretty expensive buying all this stuff!

I just streamed a Netflix movie tonight on my 4g Verizon hotspot jetpack because the park Wi-Fi would not work for netflix and it sucked up 3.7 gigs of my 5 gig limit a month OUCH!!! never again, we have to figure out something else as we are fulltimers

I see that they have only have the 20G Internet and they now have two Tablet programs. The unlimited ones are not on the website.
