Need a place to drycamp in Carmel, IN

We're in Indiana for a family gathering at Christmas. The very few RV parks we've found open are the State Fairground, Heartland, and Lake Haven. We've been told the Fairground isn't safe and the other two parks are 30+ miles from our daughter and son-in-law in Carmel (and our four-week old grandbaby). Does anyone know anywhere in the Carmel area that we might be able to drycamp in our 37' Montana for 3 or 4 days? We have two other daughters coming in for the holiday and they'll also be staying at the daughter's house in Carmel. We only get to see each other about once a year so having to travel back and forth 30+ miles each day eats up precious time and diesel. Sure would love to hear there's something available in or close to Carmel!

As far as we know, there is not a lot near Carmel. There is one small campground at exit 14 off I 69 north. It is a bit north of Fishers (believe that is exit 5). Believe it might be Glo-Wood Campground. The sites are ok, we find it a bit tight getting around in the campground, but, that might just be us. I would CALL ahead to see if they are open, sometimes they will plow a site out for you if there has been snow.

If you can stay in a motel closer, you may be happier, we would not attempt staying in that area with water hookups, IF you can find a water hookup that is functional. If you already have the rig in the area, then, you will do what you must do, eh??

When we have come through Indianapolis during the winter we are usually running hard. We make a stop in Auburn Indiana at a campground that we know IS open all year round, right off the expressway, called Fireside Resort. Then we hit the road and go past Indianapolis.

Have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the family.

edited to say, Fireside was just sold this last summer to new owners, they were open when we came through there mid November, who knows if they will keep it open all year next winter?? We certainly hope so, as it is a perfect first day out stop for us. That said, nothing stays the same, and the good stuff sure seems to change the fastest for the worstest. SIGHHH

You might call the fairgrounds in Tipton and see if you can stay there. We stay there some during the summer. You would probably have electric. Don't have number handy but look up Tipton County fairgrounds on google.. It is under purdue extension office Nice people there. Not too far from Carmel

You might ask your daughter if she knows a farmer in the area. My sister lives in Westfield and when we went to the rally we stopped and visited them. She arranged with a farm couple up the road for us to boondock on their property. Worked well, and we gave the farm couple a tour of the Monty took them to lunch and everyone was happy.

Only other place I can think of would be Hoosier Horse Park Racing and Casino in Anderson Indiana. They allow boondocking in their parking lot but it is just a large parking lot and I'm not sure how they would feel about you leaving the Monty sitting unhooked while visiting family.
Glowood would be closer than the casino and is probably the closest option.

Another option would be the Camping World on the Southside of Indy off I65 in Greenwood. They have electrical hookups but that is about all.

The number for the fairgrounds is 765-675-2694 Give them a call. I think that might be your closest place. You should be able to get electric. And they have dump station. Not sure if the water is turned off or not. They have freeze proof spigots

There use to be a camp grouds by Ditch Rd and I want to say 161st steet I think that right not for sure but close to there it was called Nothing Much Here. When my folks lived in Carmel that is where dad stored his camper. I don't rember if it is still there any more. The camp was right by a golf course.

Nothing Much Here was a nice little campground but it closed several years ago. The land has since been developed into housing and urban sprawl.
