upgrade to 8000 pound axles?

looking for input from someone who has upgraded their trailer with 'regualar' 8000lb axles. I have 7K axles right now...

I am not interested in the IS system upgrade, just a regualar axle change.

I don't know about the 8000# axles, but my 3000RK came with 5200# axles and I switched them out for 7000#, It was easy and the axles cost less than $150 ea. with new seals. And I know that the springs are not 7000# rated. The brakes where the same as on the 6-7000 axles. But the bent axle was my problem.

What is causing you to need to upgrade to 8K's? Are you overloading the 7k's or just looking for insurance. Part of the reason I picked our unit was the fact of lots of load carrying room with the 7K axles and my shorter style trailer. I can carry about 4K worth of stuff that I am sure I need. . I am not sure and did not look up your trailer weight numbers to see if their is an overload issue. I really liked the oil bath/disk brakes on some of the DRV Mobile Suites which were 8K axels. I would think they are superior to our grease style axles.

8k axles would mean you have a Montana that grosses around 19k. 16k for the axles and 20% more on the pin. Are they making them that heavy now?

Running about 17K but gvwr only 16K.
Already flattened two springs...replaced all 4 for $1200....trailer only 2 1/2 years old.

8K seems to be the answer

WOW ! Your shop sure thinks a lot of their labor. 4 springs should have cost less than $300.
