BBQ Grills

In looking at the reviews on sites like Cabela's one would get the idea that there are no easily portable BBQ grills that will do the job in wind or cold weather. That has to be incorrect. What have you found that works for you?

Thanks,
Dick

I have a Cobb Cooker that works well in cold weather. Haven't wind-tested it yet, but it seems like it would do well in the wind also. http://www.cobbamerica.com/

We have had a Roadtrip Original (blue) for about four years now and experienced problems in the wind, particularly at the beach. I just purchased a Thermos Grill to go II Advantage since I had read reviews that it would stand up to the wind. I have only used it once to date, but after using it and seeing how it actually closes over the grates, I am comfortable that it will be way better in windy conditions. All of this reply assumes you are looking at propane grills. With regards to the quality, the Roadmate is far above the Thermos with regards to metal (grates and other metal areas) and the sturdiness of the plastic framing. I have never had a problem in cold weather and don't understand how the temperature outside would affect cooking unless the cover was left up. Hope the info is of some help, I will be taking the Thermos to the beach in a couple of weeks and leaving the Roadtrip at home.

Dick I have the small Stainless grill from Cabela's and it works great. I did want to hook it up to a smaller 20# propane bottle and at the same time be able to regulate the btu's when slow cooking. I picked up the adapters and another regulator from the local propane supplier which will let me slow cook with less heat alot better than the original setup that came from Cabela's but it can blow out if you do not block the wind around the grill. Would I buy another one from Cabela's (YES). I would only buy a stainless grill as they will last a lot longer and is easy to keep looking good.

Ihave a small Weber charcoal grill. A little slow to start but wind is no problem and food cooks wonderfully. I also have the Coleman Roadtrip (red) not so good in wind, but otherwise excellent. I really prefer the Weber, on sale at Wally World for $25.00.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Starting out to go full time involves a lot more decisions than most people think. It's great to get help from those who are out there doing it!
Thanks again,
Dick

I had a Weber baby Q and it was great however I recently replaced it as my RV workhorse with a Napoleon Travel Q ... http://www.napoleongrills.com/Gourme...gas_grill.html ... It has more BTU's and a larger cooking surface and folds up to a nice manageable size and it comes with a heavy duty storage bag.

We bought a folding aluminum wind screen at Q several years ago- Just turn the back to the wind and grill away- Works for me { I am in charge of grilling }- The device has a bottom, a back and two sides which are hinged and folds flat for storage- Sure has been worth the money to me- JHMO- Don

I too got tired of fighting the wind and purchased the Grill Guard. It works great and they will make whatever size you need. We were just camping at the coast with 40 mph winds and grilling was not an issue. The slide covers whipping, that was a diffeerent story!
