Static electricity

I get shocked a lot from static electricity.I am afraid to touch any metal in my unit.I'm wondering if I put a metal spike into the ground and a wire strap from the frame to the spike if I would be able to stop the shocks.I do have have a ground through the elect.system, but not all the metal in this thing is grounded.

Nope, you're the one with the static charge, not the reverse. The low humidity of winter is a major cause. When you move through the RV you brush up against different fabrics and surfaces building a charge of several thousand volts with respect to earth ground (yep, I said several thousand). There's no current in the charge therefore the term STATIC. If you add some humidity to your home you'll reduce the charge potentials.

Yes I agree, I work with grounding and if you tie that rig down with a ground rod you could be a Montana Lightning Rod. If it where summer time.

Our technicians that worked around sensitive electronic components used to wear special electro-static discharge (ESD) straps of various kinds. One was a strap that fit on their shoes with another elastic strap from that that wrapped around their leg. It would discharge any static electricity into the floor without them ever knowing it. If it is really a problem you can't solve otherwise and really bothers you, you could try something like that.

When I worked in the computer room of a large hospital there was an anti static spray we used on the carpets. Possibly a computer store, commercial type, may have something like this....

Like was said above the anti static spray is the way to go. You can get it at places like ACE Hardware.

Invest in a humidifier ... it'll help the woodwork at the same time. Happened (static electricity) every winter in my stick house until I installed a furnace mount humidifier.

mudchief i know this has nothing to do with the problem here but i see you have a dome on your unit. i was wondering what kind it was and what kind of luck your having with it. i would think you have a digital hd tv just like mine. thanks for any information ahead of time.

The downside to anti-static spray is it leaves a film on everything and attracts dirt. When I serviced proof machines for the bank we used it a lot and it would leave a nasty build up.
