Santa dropped by a little late ... but
My Montana has had the holiday blues this year as she seemed to have been overlooked this past December. No new gadget, no G614 tires, no 6 point leveling system, no disk brakes, but notice the gleam in her side markers tonight! She has a comfy place to rest over the winter. The RV port got installed yesterday ... I've got some more side panels ordered from Menards that my son and I will put on here in a few weeks. I could buy them @ $175 per side cheaper than having the car port company screw them on.

Nice isn't even a worthy enough word to describe your late gift!! Wish I had the room for an installation like yours! Great!

Hope you're not getting the wind gusts we are getting up here tonight. If you are, you'll be able to see how strong the existing panels are. Looks like a great addition! Hope it lasts you for years to come.

Dick: We had a few 45+ mph gusts over and above the regular Kansas wind here in Wichita yesterday. They pounded 14 pieces of rebar thru holes in the base rails and screwed in 3 mobile home anchors per side bolting them to the base rails also. It creaked and shifted a little, but overall, it was suprisingly stable. In case others are interested in getting one put up in their future , I went with 41' long, 18' wide, with 11' side legs. With the way they made the trusses, with the 11' side legs, it gives me enough room to tuck it within 2-3 feet of either side and still have plenty of clearance for the A/C and roof vents. I initally wanted a 14' wide port, but the company I went with charges the same price from 12' - 18' in width. I'm glad I went with the full 18'. If you're paying for it, you might as well get it, and down the road if I decide not to own a RV, I can shorten the legs and have a nice 2 stall carport.

That will sure help with the clean up time on the camper. All you'll need now is dust cloth.

It looks and sounds like a perfect installation for our part of the world! The size sounds perfect also. Nice of mother nature to give you an early tryout. Now you don't need to worry about our spring weather.

Looks great. Had mine done last year. Only 16' wide, 12' legs, and 46' long, but enough to open all the slides (one 3/4 open). Mine also has five posts, 3' deep, that are cemented at the the corners (you can see the double posts in the photo). Very easy to add. They built the cover, then dug a hole next to the respective post, filed with cement, and bolted the leg to the posts. I have two on the left, because we hit rock and only went 2' down, so we dug another one on the next post.

My last measurement with the slides out is that my Monty is a hair under 16'. That cover being 18' wide means you can extend the slides fully and still have a foot available on either side for the flip out side window (there's one at the dining table on the driver's side.
That's very nice! The only problem is that getting on the RV roof might be tough.

I've got one of these covers, works great. I put a 1\4 inch cable x brace with 2 small chain binders on one end to stabilize it. They do sway in the wind and the x brace takes it all out. I hooked the cable to the 45 degree brace on the roof truss and the chain binder to the bottom. Then tighten it down to where there is a little slack in the cable.

With one of those my backyard camping spot would be complete. Way to go, I want one. Larry

"Twas" a foggy day on the moors when ours was built, but it does the job nicely. Same guy that built our barn built this for us too. Yes, the ground is sloped a bit, so it makes the opening seem really tall.....it is. Had 60 MPH winds so far, didn't budge a bit. Protects the "investment" really well. Just recently ran a 50 amp service to the cover, so if need be, can run the Monty "full out"...if company comes, or I "snore" too loud for DW!!!

Terry ... looks great. I was contemplating going your route, but decided I need one that could be easily moved if needed. I'm saying goodbye to the timeclock here in about 4 years and won't be staying in the "Grand State of Kansas" as the taxes here are not exactly retirement friendly. Only a limited number of property buyers would feel a permanent RV port would be something they would want to pay extra for.
