Question for Tom S. and others.

I'm in the process of building my own version of Tom S's rack for my TV. It will hold both gens, 10 gal of gas and two small propane tanks as well as leave room for our tripod jack. Up until now I've plugged the trailer into an outlet I had installed high on the drivers side rear of the bed. Should I just lay the cord over the gens etc or should I rig up a bungee cord type arrangement for the trailer's cord and use the outlet on the receiver hitch? If the suggestion is to use a bungee cord or spring ( I think Hook has something like this, but I didn't pay attention) please give me an idea of how to rig it up. Thanks!!!

I installed a plug in the front of the bed of our TV, so the trailer cord doesn't interfere with the generators. I wish I could claim to have done that on purpose, but I'd be lying! I never did use the hitch plug because I was concerned about rubbing the paint off the tailgate. You might consider making a short extension with a sharp bend right out of the plug (I looked with Google and couldn't find one already made). So long as you use the same gage wires as the trailer plug, and make bend before covering them all with tape or some other material, you should end up with a fairly short plug that bends before coming near the generator. The other option would be to add a plug in the front of the bed like mine. One word of caution on that: put it as close to the top of the bed as you can to make plugging/unplugging easier. Mine is really low and PITA without a step or ladder. There are right angle receptacles available that will allow you to mount the plug pretty high up.

Dick, just go to a local trailer rental, Dodge dealer, or any mechanic, they can get the plug and pigtail from Dodge or an auto supply store and install it. I did mine in about 30 minutes

The dealer installed mine. It is much easier on your knees. Parts, labor, etc about $100.00. Be careful if you have things in the area between the hitch and tailgate, cable might snag. If you have to buy wire, plug, connectors, etc. you will be approaching the same amount. Good Luck, Larry

Since I already have the plugin in the bed, I'm thinking about using something like this to go around the front of the rack 7 pin extension trailer cord and then just keep it all between the rack and the hitch.

Thanks for all the help on this one. For some reason looking for an extension cord never came to mind. This way I can use it with the rack in (may even make it part of the rack) and if we're just going where I don't need the gens I can use the old system with the rack out.
