More on Decals

The RV Handbook, 4th Edition has the following quote:

"Although fiberglass manufacturers do recommend wazing the surface in their care and maintenance guides, it is critical to NOT wax over vinyl decals. Sharpline Converting, Inc., a leader in RV graphics and decals, states that today’s decals are designed with an ultraviolet-resistant coating, and waxing prevents the natural breathing and will enhance cracking, peeling and fading.

With today’s technology, waxing does very little for the longevity of fiberglass other than provide a protective coating for surface scratching and a shine.

Some owners wax the front fascia, making it easier to remove pesky bugs. Several aftermarket products are available that will help enhance the shine and add UV protection, such as Protect All’s Fiberglass and Oxidation Remover & Color Restorer, or 303 Protectant, both available at Camping World."

I just had my '08 3075 washed and hand waxed. However, I did not watch them work so I don't know if the decals got waxed or not. But, since they are already peeling....

Interesting information.

If the graphics were a good quality like 3M then one would not have to worry. I am a antique tractor collector (John Deere) and have applied 3M graphics to about 25 plus restored tractors. Some are 15 years old with absolutely no peeling or cracking. We wax and show these tractors about 5 times a year and are very proud of the quality.
Our Montana is a 09 and the graphics have been replaced twice!!!

Hey Brad, the decals on our 05 2955 cracked, peeled, etc but Montana sent some new ones. Instead of replacing them we just traded it off and gave the decals to the dealer. I sure couldn't replace them and all who I asked was very expensive. The 3M's sounds like the way Montana should go. My Son in law and daughter have an older Sandpiper and their decals still looked good when I was out there in Ft Worth last month.
