Steps hard to pull out
We are new Montana owners. 2012 3400. We love it except for one thing. The entry steps are almost impossible to open and close. When we first used it we were on the road for 4 nights and I thought it was getting easier.
Then we didn't use it for about 2 weeks and over Labor Day weekend they seemed as hard as even to open. Any suggestions?

They will loosen up with use. Mine was hard at first also. As mentioned by Larry a little lube will also help.

We have had similar problems. Use PB Blaster (Walmart). It is a penetrating oil and works well if sprayed on the pivot points. It may take several applications.

I have used spray silicone at the pivot joints with success.

Mine were also hard to open/close. Then I lubed them. Now I have to use a bungee cord to keep them from bouncing open while traveling.

The wrap-around step covers catch against each other as we open our steps. Pivots are lubed as others have said, so they open VERY easily until the covers catch - just enough to keep them from bouncing open. Pure luck.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. Glad I joined up.
Good to hear that this is not uncommon in new rv's. We love our Montana.

Thanks to all again. This weekend was the first time we got out since the original post. Used PB blaster half a dozen times and worked the steps in and out and now they are great. It was the only annoyance on our new Montana which we love!

We don't use ours all the time. I built a landing and steps for when we are parked at our home site. The fold outs get real stiff. I just lube the pivot points when we go on the road, work them a bit and we are good to go.
