Big Bend area recommendations

We are looking at going to the Big Bend area in Jan/Feb. Does anyone have any recommendations. Thanks

First of all, the park isn’t on the way to anything else. You have to do it on purpose. Nice hike along the river, but I don’t know about these days. Peccaries are interesting, and run around the park constantly. Judge Roy Bean’s courtroom in Langtry is something to see. If you’re a fan of Willie Nelson, you might pop into Lukenbach if you’re in the area. To me, the solitude is the draw in Big Bend country. Enjoy your trip!

We stayed in Terlingua because the RV Park in the Park was closed for renovations. I would stay in the park if possible, but realize it is a long drive to go anywhere in the park. Don’t miss driving up to the lodge for lunch. Very interesting National Park, well worth the trip. Alpine , Ft. Davis p, and the Sun Observatory are also very interesting.

La Jitas has one of the best RV parks in the BB area-FHU. Others are spread out around the park along with BB Nat park sites. Alpine/Ft. Davis that is about 100 miles north of BB also has choices like the Lost Alaskan and Ft. Davis State Park. If you like star gazing check the McDonald Observatory schedule--lots of free telescopes operated by their staff. Luckenback is about 425 miles from BB--so maybe not a day trip! But catch on the way to Fredericksburg as you travel around Texas.

You’re right. Definitely not a day trip. We went there and BB on the same trip, and I had forgotten just how far it was.

I get the confusion about Terlingua and Luckenbach!
From the "cosmic cowboy" and "outlaw" days of the early to mid-70s...
Jerry Jeff Walker's big album Nov. 1973 was "Viva Terlinqua" and
the song "Luckenbach, Texas" was Willie and Waylon from April 1977.

On the way is Balmorhea State Park in Toyahvale. Today, it is temp closed for repairs but has the best swimming hole in Texas.
