Power outage warnings

If you have a S&B or, like us, an RV home base, somewhere where you pay an electric bill directly to the power company you may be able to get a text message telling you the power is out and when it may return. Since our RV home base is out in a rural area (60 miles to a Walmart) and we only spend the hottest months of the year here we were concerned about our three cats. On Weststar's (our power company) website you can sign up to have them notify you by email or text when there is a power outage with an estimate of when it will be restored(always an hour or more longer than it's taken them) and another text or email when it has been restored. It lets us shop and dine comfortable when away and know if we have to rush home long before the cats would be in real trouble.

That sounds like a good plan. I don't think it will work over here in the swamps. Folks in power company don't even know when their lights are off

Just a great feature to offer their customers and gives you as pet owners real piece of mind.

Rondo, it's an old co-op, board members are elected by popular vote, so we don't have best qualified

Funny I was thinking about this same scenario myself a couple days ago while we are away from home, we have a surveillance system and it has been off line for a couple days and was wondering if the power is out, also thinking of our freezers and refrigerators, I am going to check with our power company to see if they have this feature, thanks for the tip...

Our provider, LCEC (Lee County Electric Co-Op I think) in SW Florida has a great user friendly site. I can go on everyday and check my exact KW usage.

I will have to check their site again to see if they have some type of text message alert options available.
