My truck holds 200 gallons and I fuel at truck stops because I can fill both tanks at one time. I can go about 1000 miles but I do look at the price. When I find a flying J with good price I fill up. Also can get DEF at the same time.

That's about 1400 lbs of diesel but of course you have a big truck. The average 60 gal auxiliary tank is about 420 lbs of diesel plus the weight of the tank. Our F-350 already weighs 9K lbs ready to tow.The 60 gallon transfer tank weighs about 80 to 90 lbs.I wonder what the mpg is with a extra 500 lbs or so in the bed.

that 500 pounds would be about 2% of the total load. of course as the day goes on it gets lighter and lighter.....

Being retired we have plenty of time and are in no hurry to get anywhere 300 miles a day is our limit usually less. We do prefer FJ/Pilot as they are numerous on interstates or other truck stops. We have never since 2006 in travel all over the country had a problem with fueling. If your travel style requires a extra fuel tank no matter what the reason that is a good thing. I would guess that extra tank would come into play only after we have pretty well used the 40 gallons in out primary tanks.

I like to get fuel at truck stops just for the easy in and out. Keep an eye on pricing. Like Loves but they are usually the highest.
One problem I've encountered with my 2003 silverado is the size of the tank fill neck. The larger gas hoses are too big and almost impossible to use. Sometimes difficult to find the smaller auto size.
Wish more stations were RV friendly and posted which pumps have the smaller hose valves.

The truck lanes and pumps will always have the larger gas hoses. We have not yet seen a large nozzle at the car lanes or at the FJ RV lanes.

I like the larger hose nozzles and they fit fine on my 2007 Chevy. Gas fills so much faster than a regular station. We know where the Pilot and FJ stations are located since I make a list when we head south to Arizona. Not to long ago a lot of you said if diesel prices went to $5.00 you would still travel anyway. So why all the fuss about a small a difference in prices in some states. A larger tank or extra tank would only matter on long trips. If you are full timing or on the road a lot, it would pay off. The rest of the time the truck sits in the garage and the diesel would get stale if I had an extra tank. 300 miles a day is the most we travel in one day and we try to fill up when we get to 1/2 tank. We are retired and don't have to drive excessive miles because of time restraints. Those of you who are still working and only have so much time off have to go more miles in one day to do your trips. Retire sooner and enjoy life.

yes but while the price is $5.00 at FJ/P it will be $4.50 Off of the Interstate.

Yes, but when you see that Shell, Richfield, Chevron or some other brand along the freeway, how do you know if you can get your 5th wheel into the pumps. Have tried that before. A waste of time. Will continue to use Pilot and FJ for the convenience and haven't noticed that difference in fuel mileage with the ethenol. I'm just a struggling average person and need to save when I can.

I submit it’s either convenience or savings. I for one like to keep my money and have designed my tow vehicle to do just that.

I have found very few regular stations that I felt uncomfortable about using them. But then I've been towing trailers for 50 years.

I consider myself a reasonably skilled driver but I am very quick to adjust my driving to the circumstances. If I am driving a Corvette, I have no problem at all whipping off the highway and down the town streets maybe even bumping the throttle and smoking the tires just for fun. When I am driving something that is nearly as big as an 18 wheeler I tend to drive like.....well a truck driver. There is a very good reason why you don't often see 18 wheelers pulling into a 7-11 for fuel. Since I respect truck drivers and consider most to be professionals, I'll follow their lead.........the rest of you can drive your RV rigs like Corvettes if ya want too. But don't be surprised when the actual Corvette drivers are a little irritated with you when you get in the way at the 7-11. Especially if your impeding traffic just to save a nickel.

I drove 18 wheelers for 7 years when I first moved from the east coast to the west Coast. I know what I am talking about. I am not a want to be semi driver I was one. You are not a truck driver you are an RV driver. When was the last time you had to jack knife into a Rv site? I bet most request pull thoughts. I had to do that every day in Down Town LA or San Francisco and many other city’s.

Of course we did not fuel at 7-11 because we had to pay prorated state fuel taxes so we were not charged the state fuel tax at the pump. Truck stops and contract fuel services were the only ones allowed to do that 7- 11 was not. That was paid at years end by the company as we kept track of the miles we drove in each state. Then each state was paid their prorated fuel tax for each mile we drove in their state.

Not many drive like Corvettes and I don’t give a Rats a-s if a Corvette driver gets irritated if I am in a 7-11 fueling. I paid 4 times what he paid for his Corvette. Plus a h—l of a lot more in road taxes than he did.

People who drive corvettes should never go to 7-11
Thats where the drug dealers hang out. LOL
