DC Power

I had a new inverter installed in my new montana 3120 by CW in K.C. My tv and recliners does only work when connected to AC power. I thought they were powered from the batteries on DC power, but the service manager said they only work on AC power. Is that right??
I thought I read that they were suppose to work on DC power.

It takes ten times as much current at 12 vdc as it does at 120 vac to get the same amount of useful power. There is only so much you can do from an inverter without a large inverter and a very large battery bank.

I thought the standard inverter was pretty much limited to running the refrigerator.

the formula Watts Divided by Volts = amps

120 watts/120v=1 amp
120 watts/12v= 10 amps

did your old inverter shoot craps?

The recliners and TVs require AC power to operate. A 2000 watt inverter will pretty much power everything in your rig except the air conditioner and microwave.

A 2,000 watt inverter output would be 16.7 amps at 120 vac at full load. That would require 167 amps of 12 vdc input into a perfect inverter. But since no inverter is perfect, more current than that would be required when you add in the power loss (maybe 90% efficient at higher loads) of the inverter. And at that rate you would not want to use it much between battery charges.

You would need 2/0 or larger wire (depending on type) from the battery to the inverter. In addition, if you wanted to operate those 120 vac devices on either park power or battery you would need the two sources wired thru a transfer switch.

The recliners in my unit are DC but they have a "brick on a cord" to go from AC to DC. The brick outputs 29V DC at 2 amps each chair (58W or 116W total).

Assuming you have the same, you can purchase a 12VDC to 28VDC converter and run them off the batteries. The one I found on Amazon is rated to 10A so if could be wired to both chairs.

You'd need to run a 12ga or larger wire from the batteries to be safe.

Thanks, for all the response, I guess I read the Keystone manual wrong where it said on page 55 that Tv was on the 12 volt system, but thinking about it I remember seeing a 120 volt power cord behind the TV.

Where is the antenna booster switch on a 3120 ? I have looked behind both Tv's and in bedroom closets, have not seen it. there is a blue light lit up close to the cable hook ups in the wet bay area I guess it is for the booster, but I dont see a switch to turn it off.
I have read other threads about the antenna booster, but my 2019 Montana 3120 does not have the switch at that place.

I haven't investigated in-depth, but I believe the booster is built into the cable hook-ups area as you found. It's always on. I've always been able to get great reception over-the-air.

I wish there was a way to turn it off, I was hooked up to cable tv at a campground last week my picture was not good, the campsite owner told me to turn off the booster to get better picture on the cable.
