For those that have dash cams; are they worth it? I'm considering it, but wondering if they are in the way. I also don't much like the idea of a cord running to the lighter socket; guess I could hard wire it.

We had one for a couple of years and did not find it to be in the way. I think they are a good thing.
The only reason we no longer have one in the truck is because the one had interfered with the key fobs and tire pressure monitor system on our truck. The key fobs would not work unless you were right beside the truck and the TPMS would give fault notices all the time. We could find of no one else who had that problem!
We then put the dash cam in our car and after that it quit.

That's real strange! Was it a wireless transmitter?

We had the same problems with our dash cam. It had to be a distance from the TPMS.

No, and that was the strangest part. We only know that when we removed the dash cam, the problems disappeared. A tech at a local Ford dealership discovered the problem.

I have one with a 4" screen and an additional camera and love it. I ran the wires around the outer edge of the windshield under the moulding and they are barely noticeable. The second camera was advertised as for the rear but I mounted it on the front facing down and use it as a parking aid to eliminate the blind spot. Can pull right up to any object without worry of hitting it. Mine also accepts up to a 32GB micro SD card, has auto on/off, continuous recording, and many other features. Cost only about $65.00. I would really hate to give it up!
After too many incidents with a-holes pulling out in front of me or cutting me off, I picked up a $15 one on Amazon. The memory card cost as much as the dashcam! Haven't had any problems with it interfering with anything in three years (but then I've an 11 year old truck!). Was really great being able to have my faint of heart wife watch my driving the Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier (she refused to go).
No I have a 2015 F350 and have not had a problem with the dash cam causing any problems with other electronics in the truck. I have the A119 V2 and it works great.

I wonder if it's the brand of dash cam that causes the problem then. We are hesitant to get another one, though we think they are a great thing to have.

FYI I have mine up behind the rear view mirror. and as said no problems with any electronics. If you get this Spytec A119 be SURE you get the V2 unit (version 2). They fixed the connection problem between the GPS and Cam. Cam with GPS about $85.00 plus you need a micro card. I got a 64GIG card for about $25.00.
I just put in a Rexing dashcam a couple of weeks ago and mounted it up on the right side behind the mirror. That way it blocks me from seeing the screen while driving. Funny thing though, on the way to our last camping trip the TPMS worked fine on the way to the park and then I changed it from a lighter socket under the dash to a hard wire and the dang TPMS didn't work all the way home. I specifically did this so I would have the plug in order to change trucks with it, but now the transformer on the hardwire may be the culprit as my antenna for my TPMS is on the top of the mirror.

Our Dash cam is a road mate. They are all made in China and they can have most any brand name. Our TPMS monitor is about in the middle of the dash and we had to move the Dash cam to the right side of the dashboard .
Am I correct in assuming the cig lighter adapter converts 12V to USB voltage? So, If I cut it off to hard wire it, I'll need a transformer.
The cig lighter socket is just a 12v that I wired into the fuse block and then used the cig lighter plug that came with the unit and plugged it in. When I hardwired it, I bought the transformer kit(with the mini USB on the camera end) and wired it into a tap-a-fuse. The transformer takes it down to 5v.
Ours was a Roadmate also. I can maybe find out from Ford where the TPMS is. Thanks for the info.
What a bit are we talking about the TPMS on the truck the factory installed system? Or the one for the truck or trailer that we buy and install after market?
