Duramax problems

The low coolant DIC started to come on. Checking the reason for low coolant and it is leading to a bad head gasket. All the signs are there. Hard top rad hose in the morning, bubbles in the reservoir. The truck still works good. Confirmation will come on Thurs. as the garage has some strips that they dip in the coolant to see if signs of combustion products show up. Keep you posted. Could be a 3k -4K job -ouch.

I had the alarm show up on my dash. The truck was full of coolant. I had the coolant changed and system flushed, ( had 120k on coolant, book says change at150k ).
The alarm has not returned, 5k miles later.

I believe the book also says "or 5 years". Changed mine with only 58K because I was over on the time. Weirdest change I ever did because there is no drain plug and no radiator cap, plus you have a bleeder valve to loosen when filling.

OP: Hope things work out for you. No body likes to spend money on truck repairs.

I have 143k Mi. (230KM) on the TV. I changed the coolant a couple of weeks ago and I had a drain on the lower right on the rad. I had checked on the dieselplace and the signs from them indicates a head gasket. Not looking good. I use to do that work myself and still have the tools but the body does not astill recovering from a 2nd knee replacement surgery.

Hope it is not a head gasket, but a couple of the folks here in the park have had repetative problems with Duramax injectors and head gasket to include damage to the head itself due to warping. He also indicated that GMC has a recall on the headgasket issue and picked up most of the cost. On my 2005 Ford the cab had to be lifted off the frame for replacement, not sure about the new Fords or Duramax repairs.

Confirmed to day that it is the head gasket. Will replace both and the estimate at the dealer is $5200.00 but the shop that I deal with will be around $3500. 25-30 hour job and the mechinac just finished 2 others one was for a GM dealer. Merry Christmas Joe.
Thought about tradeing but I would have to fix it as I could not trade or sell with that problem.
