2012 ford brake controller

Is anyone having problems with the integrated brake controller? We have a 2012 3400rl. the brakes worked fine when pulled behind our 2002 f250 with a prodigy controller. when hooked to the new pickup and the controller set to 10 (maximun) it barely slows you down. Won't even hold the trailer in place to back in to the pin to unhook. took the pickup to dealer to be checked and they said everything is fine and the problem is in the camper. (I don't believe them. Two rv dealers say the integrated controller on new pickups is the problem. Before I spend 300 bucks on a aftermarket controller I wondered if anyone else was having trouble. The new pickup is a 2012 f250 power stroke.

I have the same brake controller in my 2008 and it has worked like a charm on 2 fifth wheels now. There may be some differences in the 2012, but I would think the general design is the same. I like the integrated controller so much that I will not buy another truck without it. -Glenn

I have a 2012 F 250 and mine is working fine. I would take it back to Ford and have them check it again?

Agree that a return trip to the Ford dealer (maybe another dealer) is in order. If the Ford dealer is able to confirm that your controller is operating properly, then the Montana dealer would be my next stop. I would have to question the RV dealers who are bad mouthing Ford's brake controllers...Your's is the first case I have heard of where Ford's brake controller is not working properly. Wish you luck in running this thing to ground.

The Ford is very different controller than the Prodigy. You can set the Prodigy so you can feel it engage when you just the brake, with the Ford controller the harder you push the pedal the more brake you have. It took me a little while to get used to it. It is different feel but it works.

When we put the disk brakes on our rig a MorRyde Engineer said that the Ford and Chevy integrated controls work fine with the standard electric brakes but that you had to get an aftermarket controller if you went to hydraulic disk brakes (his actual experience with his Ford). I would trust MorRyde and find another Ford dealer.

our 2012 controller works fine. It is a gradual stop. no sudden hit like before. Maybe when trying to back into your pin set the gain to 10 and manually lock the controller. also have you tried to lock up your brakes in a parking lot? set the gain up and hold the controller, should lock up the trailer after a few feet. If not, I would pull the whole unit to your dealer for a ride to show him the problem

When I called Morryde I asked if I would have to have an aftermarket controller on my 2012 Ford when I get the IS system and he told me no.

Have you checked to see if it works when you manually engage it?

The controller on my 2012 F350 works great, set at 6.5. I'd check the trailer brake adjustment and wires, again.

The problem wasn't in the pickup brake controller. Took our 2012 3400rl to the dealer we purchased it from to find out why the brakes barely worked. Two hours later they found the problem. Three of the four grease seals were out and the fourth one was starting to leak. Everything in the drum coated and soaked with grease. 7000 miles on unit, I'm impressed!!!!!! Only $1300.00 to repair!!! Now the good news. Dexter axles is standing behind the repairs. No hassle, I called them, explained what was going on, and they said we will take care of everything. This is our third Montana and never anything like this. Dexter must have got some bad seals or changed supplier. Thankfully the stepped up and took care of it.

Yes, good response from Dexter. I had a brake cylinder that went out on my boat trailer axle and Dexter honored the warranty, but I had to take it into the dealer for the repair.
