Garmin dezl™ 560LMT GPS

Anyone own one or can recommend an RV/Trucking-specific GPS? This would also include the Garmin dezl 760LMT, Magellan RV9165LT-LM, & Rand McNally RVND 7720 models. Lotsa pros/cons to all on Amazon, & lotsa new models. I'm lookin to replace my nuvi with something to input my rig dimensions...

The Garmin 465LMT has worked well for us. Of course, generally speaking with the way technology improves, the newer the model the better.

The 765 is kaput, unfortuantely, but the 465 is still available. Looks like they're going with this 'dezl' lineup for the near future...

Jim,
I just ordered the Rand McNalley 7720. It has the camera input. I should have it later this week and can give you a report in a few days. Not sure how fast you want to order.

I don't think anyone can tell you anything about the Garmin dezl™ 760LMT GPS because it's not due for release until Jan 2013 (a dumb marketing move IMHO). I will be looking at it when it's released however, based upon the bad reviews I've seen on other makes.

John, I don’t think you will be disappointed with the R/M model. We purchased one in June of this year and really like it. It hasn’t led us wrong yet; not saying that something couldn’t happen but saying that is a nice unit. I believe ours is the 7710 model. It can be set for RV mode or car mode and is supposed to reoute you accordingly. Very happy with ours!

John - no hurry as we're looking to replace our old one before heading to Texas in January. Will look forward to your review, as the 7720 is one that I am looking at.

Tom - I agree & now know about the release date; shoulda titled the post '560LMT'. Haven't read anything encouraging about the 560LMT...

Just used both a Garmin and the Rand McNally to go from Deming, NM to Boyce Thompson Arboretum today. Same input to each. I had the RM in the truck hauling the rig and it took me right to the front door. Joyce was following, but just in case was using the Garmin with updated maps as of the first of last week. The Garmin tried to get her to turn off in the middle of the mountains telling here she was there. Only off by 6 miles. That's the reason I replaced the built in one with the Rand McNally. The built in one in the truck was also a Garmin and I got tired of it doing that type of thing to me. Of course we work and live off the beaten path, but so far the RM has been right on.

Dick - read reviews from truckers using the 560 saying the same thing. The Garmin also didn't respect the 13' high specs they programmed in and it tried to take one guy under a 9' railroad tressle with no warning - had to back up 2 miles to turn around. By the way - he was hauling a load of gasoline...

I just received my new RM 7720 a couple of days ago. The first thing I have to get used to is the size (My last unit is a 5" Garmin). I have been looking for the best place to place it in my Chevy as it only comes with a suction cup type of mount. So far the best place appears to be mounted on the face of my dash. (I don't like it on the windshield where it blocks any of my view and is illegal in several states) It is about twice as heavy as the Garmin.

I took my first trip recently and it performed very well after getting used to the differences between the two. I very much enjoy the screen size. It has an adjustment for the color of the roads that takes some getting used to. All of the turns and route info appears to be correct, but the trip was too short to get a real opinion. I have no idea how this one compares to the RM7710.

One very neat feature is the weather overlay. It needs a wi-fi connection to work, so I used my I-phone as a hotspot. As I was driving I could see the weather on the map ahead move from rain to snow and back as I crossed Snoqualimie Pass heading east to Cle Elum, Wa. I'm looking forward to this feature when traveling with Monty in January heading to the Q.

Again, It's too early to give a good report, but so far I like it.

I have the 560LMT and, besides one hiccup, it has worked for me.

I have the R/M 5510 and for one firmware update it made it into a brick! Though the next update resolved the problem. I now am running with my iPad using the CoPilot Premier HD App ($14.95) and it works well on my iPad as well as my iPhone. It downloads the maps to your device and keeps them updated. It has all modes to choose from including RV mode.

My first Major glitch with the Rand McNally 7720 was the video application. The unit came with NO interface cable and no documentation as to hooking up the video. The second disappointment is the 7720 does not have AUDIO output received from the camera. I have a 10 year old GPS that has video and audio.

My reaction is they just threw in the Video input as an "oh, by the way" application.

The service desk had no idea how to hook it up other than telling me to use a 2.5 mm plug, exact make or model unknown. The short story, their design uses a 4 contact 2.5 mm plug and the wiring is not logical. The service center could not tell me how to interface it. They did say DIESELBOSS sold camera for their unit and I should talk to them.

I already had cameras and wanted just the interface cable. DIESELBOSS is the one that saved me. They sent me an interface cable, for a minimum cost, and also shared with me the 4 pin requirement. After my call they are looking at stocking interface cables.

I just received the cable and will not get a chance to use it until Friday. Don at DIESELBOSS did say the video is great and he was impressed with the Truckers 720 model routing. He is waiting on my report.

I did notice that Rand McNally does reference ALLSTAYS on their start up screen and I feel that is why their RV campground selection including Military is so well developed.

I will have a much better feel of routing once I make my trip to Fl between 23 Nov and 2 Dec.

Note: I have no financial ties with DIESELBOSS. I am just thankful they could solve the video input crisis.

John - thanks, will be waiting for your review. KOA had a good review of this model also, albeit the guy didn't have it very long either. Am also looking at the TND720 (tucker model). Gonna d/l the specs for both & compare...

The reviews I read for the Garmin 'dezl' models were from buyers on Amazon. Most were not too favorable... I have a Garmin Nuvi now & love it, so I'm certainly not anti-Garmin. I prefer real-life experiences to mfr hype, & appreciate the comments of those who have 'em...

I read an online review of several units from different manufactures a week or so ago that gave pretty high marks to the Rand McNally 7720 and recommended it over the others.

I just tried to find it again to add the link but couldn't come up with it quickly.

After reading that article, it piqued my interest so I went to the RM site and they had a video of it in action that was pretty informative. I like the features.. As a long time Garmin user I might just want to get a 7720.

we just got RM 7710 and used it from Omaha to VA--worked good, including route to campgrounds. a lot of campgrounds are in it but I did have some problems getting one that I didn't have the address for--I think it was just operator error or maybe dumbness
