I removed the bicycle hitch myself. It is attached by small bolts and the welded bracket is attached to an add on extension welded to the main frame. I suspect the 8-12" add on is to help hold the tank frame and hitch. The 200# rating is all I would trust to the OEM hitch.

As with other replies ... I've towed a small boat or jetskis behind 3 different Montana's since 2000 with no issue. Boat & trailer weight has been around 2000#, but not over that. As mentioned there are issues to personally deal with as in frame warranty, comfort zone and experience when towing 60'+, and what state you are wanting to do this. Generally both coasts are not double tow friendly. West of the Mississippi, you see just as many fivers towing something behind as not. I have a custom hitch and a rear view camera to keep an eye on things. Driving 2 vehicles on our excursions is not an option we want to give in to, so we double tow during and past warranty. I will discourage you from pulling something like a 24' Donzi ... common sense. Digest all responses and do what best fits your needs.

I've been doing it for 15 years now and never a problem with any rig. Just be sure the hitch is up to the task and you are up to it. Some states you need a special licence. Got to be on your guard a little more.
The hitch is not the problem, the frame is the issue.

I have towed a motor cycle behind my 05 2955RL for the past year with no problems. The way I see it if Montana allows me to haul 55 gallons of water in the fresh water that's 330 lbs. I use a swivel wheel trailer that puts 200 lbs on the rear of the trailer frame. With only 6 extra feet added to the length of the trailer we stay with in the over all length. I have never had a head turn from the state police. You need to keep in mind that there is added length to account for when you make lane changes a turns.

Except down south where 55 gallons of water would weigh 459 lbs.

You still have to remember that the east and west coast states don't allow triple towing so if you do get stopped in one of those states then you have a problem.
