DuraMax problem

I have over 100,000 and I have a problem that just started. My fuel injection pump bleeds down at night. I have to manually pump it up almost every morning. Anyone else have this happen to them and what is the fix.

I just recently had the same problem on my 2003 GMC. One mechanic suggested I change my fuel filter to an AC one (I was using WIX) was told that non OEM filters can cause this, but while changing the filter I noticed the head on the bleeder screw twisted right off when loosening it. Bottom line, I believe it was the bleeder screw. Once replaced, I had no more problems.

Sounds like you need a rebuild kit for the fuel filter mount. It is just some O-rings.

I had this same issue for a while with my 2001 gmc duramax. Switching the filters helped, and i replaced the oem bleed screw that came original with it to a stainless steel one from Merchant auto(vendor on dieselplace). That helped quite a bit. Finally was replacing the pig tail plug for the fuel pressure regulator per a tsb wbich solved it completely. Could also invest in an air dog or fass fuel pump. On original duramax, fuel was brought from the tank by vacuum (siphon) and any air leak would break the suction. When i was having the problem, i would park it nose downhill and it never bled down.

We had just had a filter change before leaving Colorado to head back to Texas at the GM dealer. Almost home, the vehicle went into reduced power mode. Pumped up the prime and the error went away for 50 miles and then came back. Reprimed again. When it continued, I pulled over and got into the dealer. Code said "check injectors". I was on the south side of 100k by about 600 miles and GM covered 7 new injectors. Hope it's the fuel filter. Keep us posted. If it is the injectors, have your dealer contact Chevy for some help on the cost of the repair before you agree to anything. Good luck.
