Vail Pass

On Saturday, April 24th, we crossed through Vail, CO and the Summit on I-70 where there was about 4-6" snow and slush. Talk about a dirty rig! When we arrived in Colorado Springs, the rig and truck were filthy. The ride wasn't bad, wasn't too hard driving, but we finally washed the rig and truck today.

Don't advise traveling I-70 in bad weather.

Orv, we were to take that route at the same time as you but Robbie suggested I-80 instead. Your post makes me thank Robbie for his suggestion again. It was wet, slushy and snowy but not as bad as your route and not quite as steep. - Jim

Orv,
We traveled through Vail on Tuesday the 20th and were surprised that there was no snow at the summit. Sounds like we got through in a nick of time. On the 24th we were in Iowa City, IA. Were they still working on repairing the damage from the rock slide in Glenwood Canyon?

Didn't notice. But that could have been because I was more interested in the slush and sludge on the highway. Apparently the rockslide was taken care of before we got there. There were lots of snow plows and snow removal equipment there though.

Orv, The repairs must have been completed as when we passed through the West bound traffic was diverted to share the East bound lanes for about a quarter of a mile. You definitely would have noticed this despite the snow and slush.
