Good Camp Ground Between Pahrump & Reno

Does anyone know of any good campgrounds that are between Pahrump & Reno on either highway 95 or 395? We want to break it up into 2 overnight stays between Reno & Pahrump, and then onto “Lake Siskiyou”.

Bill,

There are several parks in Beatty, which is about 100 miles from Vegas. We stopped at one on the south end a few years ago, the Burro Inn, when we went to Death Valley. Unfortunately they closed it down and tore down the casino that it went with right after we left (I musta won too much money, I guess). We noticed that a new motel was built next to it, and it was open again. Beatty is a fairly popular place because of Death Valley, but not a lot of selection.

We usually stay at the state rest stop at Millers, about 12 miles north of Tonopah (200 mile mark), when we go to Vegas. No services except for restrooms and a dump station, but a popular stop. Nights are dark and the stars are beautiful. This stop splits the Vegas to home trip about in half.

Hawthorne (300 miles) is a little town surviving because of the munitions depot. I've stayed at Whisky Flats RV park a couple of times. Clean, well cared for, but sparse (see their website "whiskeyflats.net".

395 may offer a little better choice, what with Bishop, Lone Pine, and Bridgeport. We stopped at Brown's town om Bishop, but it isn't high on my list. Another that I've seen recommended is Highlands RV park. HamRad could probably give you a much better idea of what's on 395, though.

South end of Lone Pine is a very nice park. Boulder Creek RV. It's a Good Sam park. Has a store and gift shop. Home made muffins in the morning at the lodge the last time we stopped.

We also have stayed at Boulder Creek a number of times. Good overnight stop and Lone Pine is an interesting little town.
Happy trails....................

I agree with Boulder Creek as a place to stay. It's just gravel but the sites are OK and the scenery is outstanding! Great view of Whitney.

If you come up 95 out of Vegas there is a CG at the Amorgosa Valley cutoff. It is where Walt and Linda were located for a couple of years. I don't know if they are back there yet or not. Also not sure if the CG is even "open" officially. It is a nice CG or was at one time. The service station and cafe are or were not open when we visited a couple of months ago.

In Bishop we've stayed at Brown's Town and at another place not too far from the Indian Casino. It is nice CG with pull thrus and full hook-ups. I believe it was the Highlander RV park.

In Reno we would stay at Silver City which is actually just south of Carson City or in Reno we'd stay at the Shamrock. It is located on the north side of town just off the 395. It is just a parking lot type place but very clean and easy to get in and out of. A bit on the expensive side but very convenient for most of Reno. Sites are large with full hookups. It is almost always busy and if it's a holiday then you must have reservations.

We've also stayed in Susanville. A nice CG toward the east side of town. Mountain View. Paved roads. Concrete pads with grass and small trees between sites. A bit $pendy but where isn't it now a days!

To get to Lake Siskiyou from Reno we have taken 395 up to hwy 36 to Susanville. Then we take hwy 36 to hwy 44. We take 44 west toward Hwy 89. We take 89 all the way into Mt. Shasta and it is a beautiful drive. A fairly steep uphill just west of Susanville and then a steep downgrade just before the connection to hwy 89.

We've stayed at the Hat Creek CG which is located just north of the hwy 44 and hwy 89 intersection. It is a nice CG. Very rural type setting. Pine trees all around and in the CG. A nice little lake in the park. Easy drive from there to Shasta.

See you soon.
