My oldest daughter had thyroid cancer 7 years ago. Thyroid was removed, then nuclear treatment and now a pill every day. She has been cancer free since. The worst part of the whole thing was the diet before and after treatment/tests. My daughter-in-law also had thyroid cancer and she is free as well. Before tests there is a diet of no iodine so no salt. But we got pretty good at it after a while, she even made her own bread. Ours prayers will be with you. Do EVERYTHING the Doctor tells you to the T. Keep us informed of the progress.
Happy trails.......................

Our brother in law had his removed and did the treatment and has been cancer free for 10 yrs.
He had his operation then went to the cancer clinic and had to drink some radio active stuff and stay in a room by his self until they could not detect the radiation. They told him to drink lots of fluids to flush his system which he did and he was out the next day. The other person that was in there didn't drink as much and had to stay on more night.

My sister-in-law had thyroid cancer four years ago. She had surgery and removed the thyroid and about a month later she had to go through radiated iodine treatments. She took the radiated iodine but could not be around her children for three days so she went to a motel room and stayed there. The radiated iodine comes out through the skin so that is why she had to go to the motel room for the three days and two nights. She is doing fine and no signs of cancer. A year later she had to take another iodine pill and has to take it for three years in a row following the surgery just to be on the safe side. The reason for this was because they could not get all of the cancer through surgery. They could have gotten it all but they would have had to take her voice box also so they didn't do that and thus the radiated iodine treatment. Again, she is doing fine and living a normal life. Except for the surgery scare there is not to show she ever went through it!
You'll be in our thoughts and prayers!!

Well, that blows.
You need anything, holler...sounds like the outcome should be decent but we'll send prayers anyhow.

Drew, I didn't have thyroid cancer but had a very large goiter. I had to have a complete thyroidectomy because of it, last June. The surgery was not horrible and I breezed right thru it. They do the incision in a crease in your neck and it's hardly seen after a couple of months. Got adjusted to my Synthroid right away. Now if you ask me about my complete hysterectomy in Jan. you'll get a totally different story! Hope all goes textboook for you.

As indicated, it is one of the most 'curable' cancers in that the thyroid can be removed. My grandmother had her removed when she was in her late 70's and lived another 10 or 12 years cancer free until a brain aneurysm got her. Good luck and God bless!

My wife, Marge, had thyroid cancer in 1995. Thyroid removed. End of story. She has done extremely well with thyroid medication.

No experience with that particular cancer, but the above posts should be reason for a positive attitude.
I think a positive attitude helped me with my prostate cancer.
Go gettem'!!

this a "bummer". Do what they what they tell you and you should have a good outcome. I had a Dr. tell a patient with this kind of cancer "you will die someday but not from the thyroid cancer"
