Sold Diesel Pusher & bought Montaineer
Not new to RVing..Had every kind of RV you can imagine except slide ins. We've been in Diesel Pushers for years and 3 months ago sold our latest 2004 pusher and thought we were getting out of RV's. Wrong!!! Three weeks later we bought an SOB 28 ft. fifth wheel and kept it 4 weeks then traded it for a 2003 298RLS Mountaineer. Best trade I've made in a long time. We love our Mountaineer.
I've been lurking in the shadows on this forum and have learned alot from others. We've also finished some of the updates suggested by other form members.
We're looking forward to St. Augustine in Sept. and the Florida Keys in Nov. Thanks for all the imput from others....Keep it up...You never know who's reading it.

Welcome to a fellow Mountaineer owner. We love ours as well. Over the last 6 months this forum has been more valuable than I ever expected.

I have never regretted getting our 328RLS. Love it, Love it, Love it!!! We moved up to the 5er from a class 3 motorhome. What a difference.

HughM--Let me join in welcoming you to the forum. If you are willing to share, I for one would be interested in what brought you from a diesel pusher to the Montaineer. I have a very good friend who has a diesel pusher, and whatever you can share could come in handy next time we get into a debate on the relative merits of each rig. LOL!!!

OK David and Jo-Anna. Where we had our MH serviced there was a large sign, "If You Think Maintenance Is Expensive, You Should Price Neglect". Oil change for Cummins & Onan engines inc. oil and filters and fuel filters & lube=$400.00. Covered Storage (we're in a gated comm. & no parking RV at your house)=$165.00 a month. Insurance $1500.00 a year. Oh, and don't forget $700.00 for the note. VERY FEW pushers you see on the road are paid for. We have a good friend who sales them and he says about 90% are financed.
The good side. Extremely reliable. Never been broke down due to engine. one flat tire. $300.00. MH very comfortable to drive and ride in due to 2 air bags over each tire. When you stop for the night your RV is already cool due to the AC's running during the day. Nice in FLA. Now when your friend rants about his MH, just tell him you didn't lose about $45,000 a year on your Montanna depreciation. We love our Mountaineer!!!!!.

we lusted after the montanas since we first started looking at RV's a few years back. I just wish I bought one in the beginning rather than losing my shorts on SOB before finally getting what we really wanted. We're now 2 very satisfied owners of a 2007 307RKD.

Speaking for self: we prefer the fifth wheel to a motorhome. If we had need to go to a store after we were parked, it was a big pain to lock everything down again. We could have towed transportation, but really didn't want to tow a car. And if there were to be a problem with the motorhome; we would be without a house (so to speak). Insurance more $$ than a fifth wheel.Repairs also more costly. I wouldn't trade our Mountaineer for a Big Sky either! Love my private bath. However, the BS's are quite handsome.

Can't go so far as to say we wouldn't trade our Mountaineer for a Big Sky!!, but we do love our Mountaineer also. We just got our 05 298RLS in Jan. this year and have made several short trips over the summer so far. It's our first RV and now we wish we'd got one long ago!

We have a 2007 Mountaineer 5th wheel, rear living and love it. Traded up from an 05' Sprinter 5er bunkhouse,liked that one too, just not much use for the bunkhouse beside storage. Enjoy your camper.

We also are very happy with our Mountaineer. I am a pull tailer fan and this is our first 5er. Now that I have a hitch on the back of the trailer I am even more satisfied because I can take our four wheelers with us again.

HughM and Slewis--thanks for the info on motorhomes vs. fifth wheels--I like the additional ammunition for my next debate with my MH friend.
But I guess I'll have to keep my Big Sky since no one wants to trade me their Mountaineer. LOL!!!!!!

Welcome and enjoy the Mountianeer. We are in out second season with ours and really love it. It is interesting that I don't think I have ever met a Mountianeer owner who as not very happy with their unit.
Now, would we move up to the Montana or Big Sky? Would love to, but with teenagers in tow, the separate bathroom and bedroom/bunkhouse are just perfect. We always say, when the kids are grown up, we will trade in the bunkhouse for recliners, a fireplace, etc... and move on up to the Big Sky... but for the next 10 years or so, the 342PHT is perfect for us.

Hello and welcome to the forum. We liked our Mountaineer better than our current Big Sky. We had a 2005 297RKS Good choice of trailer.
