Rendezvous along the Rio Grande?

As we read the Forum it seems like conversation on Regional Montana Gatherings is springing up everywhere.

Are there enough Winter Texans, Snow Birds and Locals in Montanas to support the idea of a successful one day Montana Owners potluck picnick gathering in Jan of 05?

Seems like a one day gathering in a park between Brownsville and McAllen would be a fun opportunity to meet more MOC members, and exchange adventure stories and information.

What do you think?

Sounds like fun to us, but sadly, we cannot even leave here till January 12th, at the earliest, if weather is great and we drive right through, we figure we won't be in Donna area until about the 17th, probably more like the 20th, cause we have to allow for bad weather and for possible sight seeing in areas we have not driven through. And, that does not allow for family emergencies that might even keep us here.

Donna is about half way and I know that last year at Victoria Palms, with a reservation, you could use their little White House for such a gathering. Has a bathroom, two meeting rooms, etc. Pot lucks are welcome, clean up is mandatory. You need to have a resident of Victoria Palms reserve the room, and that means anyone staying there for more than a week or so. We reserved it last year for a gathering of all the Montana owners in the park, 10 at one point in time.

I'll bet that other resorts/campgrounds have the same sort of set up.

Hope we can make it.

Sounds like a good idea Jim. We have been reading about all the folks we meet earlier this year, and it seems several are collecting in the Valley Area. If you folks can work out a date, we would like to attend. It is a 6.5 hour drive for us, but we would probably take a week of vacation just to say Hi to all.

We would be interested if we could get together mid Feb 05. Dates are always difficult, all of us have other things on our plate. Best thing to do is pick a date and hope that most can make it, and if not maybe next time. Ron

We would be interested in attending. It would depend on the date that is picked. We are scheduled to arrive 1/16.

We would be interested also with two rigs. We are not leaving Georgia and S. Carolina meeting on 20 to head for Arizona until Jan 15th. We will be going thru northern Texas on the way but February on the way back would be best for us. We'll keep an eye on this to keep up on what is going to happen. Dan

We won't be there until the end of January. We will keep an eye on this thread and see how it plays out.

Looks like there is some interest but a best schedule date may be a bit more difficult.

Lets try these two possibilities as initial targets. Look at your schedule and make a choice.

1. Prefer Saturday the third week in Jan 05.
and would attend on that date.

2. Prefer Saturdsy the third week in Feb 05 and would attend on that date.

Time for another show of preference. Please enter your choice on this thread.

Oh yes and spread the word!

Other ideas also welcome.

I will attend whatever date as we are now in McAllen. Just to throw in my two cents though, I know a few people that will be coming to the valley in Feb. and perhaps an early Jan. meeting is a little too soon for those that are planning on leaving their homes for the valley after xmas. A later date would give them time to get organized a familiarize themselves with the valley.

We can do either Jan or Feb, whatever suits you folks the best. When the dates are set, we will set vacation and be there.

Happy Holidays, and everyone travel safely.

As stated above, we would prefer February, god willing and the creek don't rise, we will be there by then, and taking into consideration any family emergencies (Al is a only child, his mother is our concern).

We won't be there in time for Jan. date, therefore third in Feb for us.

Our thanks to those who take the trouble to arrange these things.

Count us in, would prefer late January, fits in with our travels more, but might make the other also. Will follow the posts to see what happens.
Happy new year!

------------------

Dan and everybody else,

I guess the latter part of February would be the best time to schedule this. I count about a dozen folks that could make it already and I think there will be more as the word spreads.

Let's spread the word that the third Sat of Feb. is the date tentative.

Now another difficult question. Where is the best location for a one day event like this?

Hmmmm............

Let's take score on this again about Jan 15th.

Starting Monday I'll be off of the COX Cable and much more intermitent with online time for the Forum. (Enroute to San Benito)

Happy New Year!!!

Might suggest that you do not need to do this on a weekend, Saturday's in the Valley are full of activities, from entertainment to Flea Markets (one of the great sports of the Valley)

No reason to not consider a week night. Just a thought!

We still hope to be there by Feb. 1st, give or take, if all goes well, and the creek don't rise.

Cheers and Happy New Year to ya all!

I agree with Al and Carol, the weekends are flea market days and the place is crawling with "visitors" from across the border. Better off with a weekday. Everyday is a weekend.

We will set a week of vacation for the 3rd week of Feb and start looking for a park to make a reservation.

Jim, we will help you with whatever you think you need. Some of the folks that are already in the area might be able to get together and find a room we can use for the event(s).
