Summer Car Storage In Florida

This will be a first for us, but we thought we would give it a try. We are taking our Jeep Wrangler to Florida this winter to use during our 4 month stay. I want to keep the miles off my F350 plus it is easier to drive around in a car (and more fun with the tops off). We will be leaving it there from May to December, probably in outside storage. I have a buddy living close by that will check on it every month for me.

I plan on having a breathable cover over it and parking it up on pieces of treated 2x12. I will fill the gas tank to about 3/4 and add sta-bil.

Anyone else store vehicles down there in the summer? What else should I do to prepare it for hot summer storage down there?

Where we stay in Florida, in a seasonal park, folks have found that because of the wind, rain, and sun, covers tear and rot quickly. If I was going to store a car, in our area there are many commercial covered storage facilities that range in price from $50 to $200 a month depending on length. I would go that route.

Thanks Mike for that suggestion, I will look into that option. I would prefer not to cover it but hat to have it baking in that sun all summer (soft top), so a covered storage spot would be worth it.

I would highly recommend covered storage with Battery Tender if power is available.
Check on insurance coverage some insurance company's require that the vehicle be in your home state for 6 months. This also true for a trailer we leave our trailer in PA our Fl insurance does not cover had to obtain PA insurance

With all the snow birds there you might be able to rent a garage for the summer. I rented mine to a neighbor who is a full time resident and has 2 vehicles just wanted to get it out of the summer sun. Think he gave me $200 for May to Oct or when ever DW gets back there.

I may try putting an ad on Craig's List when I get down there. Even renting a carport from someone would be great.
