East Harbor State Park in Ohio

On our way to the Rally, we plan to stay a few days at the East Harbor State Park in Ohio. It looks beautiful and right on Lake Erie. Also, it is a Passport America Park. Has anyone ever been there?

We stayed there a couple of years ago. They have a limited number of sites that have water at the site, the sites all have electricity. The remainder have water stations in the area to allow filling containers. We stayed at a site back further in the campground that had only electricity. I had a leak and lost most of the water in my tanks (filled up at the fill station before entering the camping area). I connected a hose to the water station in the area and soon found out that was a no-no. I was able to get about a 1/2 tank before being asked to stop. The campground was pretty good and we would stay there again, we would get a site with water and electricity the next time.

While in the area, a day trip to Put-In-Bay is worth the ferry cost/ride. There is also a winery if so inclined, Mon Ami (Not in Put-In-Bay, but on the mainland near the campground). We spent the afternoon and evening. They have a winery, a bar, a restaurant, and an outside patio with food and drink. The evening we were there, they had live music and we had a great time.

We loved Put-in Bay too Nita... Touristy but a lot of fun... Can't tell you a thing about the campground though

We've stayed there several times. It is nice they do have a very limited number of full hook up sites that are usually booked way in advance. The sites w/o full hookups are small but our 35 ft. fit.

I also vote for Mon Ami winery. Worth the trip to Ohio for that alone. We have a semi=perm campsite near there and are always go to Mon Ami. Frequently. Great farm markets and cheese barns along the way, too. Fresh perch is awesome at many of the restaurants. And walleye.
There are other campgrounds in that same area if you find that East Harbor is not what you want. Enjoy the lake area.

We were unable to get a full hook up site, or any site for that matter that would accomodate our rig at East Harbor, so we are open to any suggestions. We just got Passport America so I am going to check out a couple of other places from there. Anyway, thanks for all the info about the area. It's good to know there are some fun places to see!

We stayed in a park right off the Freeway near Sandusky last year. Can't remember the name but it was a good place to anchor from while we visited friends... Jo-Anna (David and Jo-Anna) might have some good ideas.... she has lots of family in that area and has been there for the last few weeks.

Our Civil War Cavalry Company participated in a reenactment there in June. Those of us with horse trailers boondocked inside the park and were very comfortable. They just completed a new dump station that can service four rigs at the same time. We have it on our list of places to return without the horses someday. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful.
